Ever since I received my '08, I've been somewhat plagued by a rattling fork lock pin. While the ignition lock could clearly be removed and a bushing added, I did not really want to take the bike apart. Then there's the issue of defeating the security torx screws too. I've tried several things. Zip ties, small gauge wire spiral, bits of paper, bits of plastic. All worked for a short while but then moved out of place or disappeared all together. Last week, while once again staring at the pin, I found the answer. I noticed that the lock pin was similar in diameter to some 14/3 Romex that I had for a garage wiring project. I cut about an inch of Romex and pulled the conductors and insulation from the insulating sleeve. I then slit the length of the sleeve at a slight angle, making a partial spiral. Next, using fingers and forceps, I worked the sleeve around the pin and was able to slide the insulating sleeve into the bracket against which the lock pin rattles. Problem solved!!! The vinyl insulation sleeve stays in place and is thick enough to prevent rattling without causing the pin to bind. Cheap too. Mark in Arizona | ||
