so I have an offer on the table for $7500 on an '07 xb12r with 1144miles from a dealership. Mint condition and first service is done. It is a distance away, so it will be bought unseen and shipped. My concern though is that it was a demo bike. Should this add or decrease its price than if it was privately owned for its first 1000mls? However being a demo, it is a bonus in that the warranty hasnt started yet, and will be 2 years from when I purchase it. Any concerns I should have with it being a demo? | ||

The only concern you have is the same concern you would have with any purchase. You're in the MON as far as dealers and support are concerned. Having the warranty is great but you're almost a day away from any dealer so you won't be able to use it much. Fortunately, this is a fairly easy bike to work on and my R has been very reliable, for whatever that's worth. Miles or Kilometres? | ||

Mine was a demo. Good points are the price was lower and the warranty hadn't started. The only bad point is (like a used bike) You don't know how hard it was rode before you got it. I would think it would be worth more than a privatly owned bike just on the warranty. But you could probably get one cheaper from a private party and get the extended warranty. You'd have to run the numbers. | ||

thats 1144miles. They just came back with $7749 out the door, includes shipping (quoted at $400 from across country), 1000K service done, 2 year warranty and one month storage. only $249 more than my first offer. Your profile says Canada, I assume the bike is also in Canada? I know there are restrictions on importing the bike from the US. | ||

yah im in Canada, put prices in US though, since majority on here are yanks. yah was ready to bite on one from buffalo, but found out that you cant import an 06 or greater. | ||

I can't speak for anyone else, but I ride the piss out of a bike any time I demo ride. Not to the point where it becomes abuse, but I ignore the fact that it hasn't been properly broken in yet. If the price is too good to pass up and you're confident that you can perform all of the required maintenance on your own then go for it. (the warranty basically means nothing if you don't have a dealer nearby) | ||

I abuse demo bikes before break-in. I abuse my bikes after break-in. I'm not sure it matters so much in modern engines, I've heard lots of debate. | ||

Chances are that modern engines and more precise tolerances allow for some slack in break-in-procedure. (I don't have the spare cash to experiment with that idea though) I know for a fact though that someone out there is riding an 1125R that I introduced to redline with 3 miles on the engine. Precise tolerances or not, I wouldn't want to buy that bike. | ||

my first buell was a 4 year old demo that i purchased from a dealer. the sweetest part of the deal was that the dealer used it as a platform to try out lots of aftermarket parts such as the race kit, suspension, and some other mods that made it a really sweet deal. it was an 03 and i gave 4000 for it with 4500miles on it. never had any trouble out of it until i wrecked it | ||

yes the break-in period is an issue for me, however, to go brand new, the best I have so far up here is $500 above MRSP, which in Canada is $10151US. So final it was $7380 OTD with a 2 year warranty. 3K+ in savings over brand new, is enough for me to look past its questionable break-in history. (Message edited by nbpcp on April 19, 2009) | ||

actually I couldnt bite on the one from buffalo, cant import an '06 or greater. this one was from a dealer in Vancouver. Such a hassle going south, with the difference on the dollar, customs, just not worth it. | ||

I bought my 08 12r with 300 miles on it. The guy before me damn near smoked the rear tire off in that time. When I got it I didnt do much better with it. Really had no break in period to speak of and have no real problems with it. Wire form to hold the clutch cable off of exhaust did break, dealer has on order. If you dont buy what you like you'll regret it. | ||

Always worried about proper break in procedures when buying cars but gave up after awhile because I have never owned any car, new or used, more then 2 1/2 years!?!?!?! | ||

the importing process is easy. i brought my buell up and my audi, but it was when the dollar was par with the us, so it was worth it. | ||

You can only import the 06 and older into Canada Jdorp There was some great deals for us down south when the dollar was at par.....not so much now |
