+1 Jimmy and Goody! Don't fire up your bike if it has not been in a "normal" orientation to the earth, for at least an hour or two. Forks are cheaper if you do them yourself, if you don't have to buy the "special" tools. I tend to make tools or use "homemade" tools/ingenuity to do it myself. I have had "others" do forks and shocks with FANTASTIC results, for fairly cheap considering what was done. Let someone else do the work! It's worth it. |

man, this maintenance item is looking more involved, refined, expensive, and detailed the more i look into it. and i've only earnestly looked into it for a grip. i found a fork spring compressor tool for 129, seal driver for 50 or so (+ shipping?). dunno how much seals and other items that will be needing replaced, but it might take 3 parties to make this worth it, or another 20,000 miles (3 fork oil changes). community tools are not my favorite thing either, but if it helps the greater good... the down time will be much less if we DIY, but we might F it up. i do take pride in working on my own vehicles. (i swapped engines in my cavalier in '06) -fogging up my fingernails and polishing them on my shirt- so, i'm still undecided. |

Thanks Jimmy, makes perfect sense. Goody, I'm about 3k away from my 20k Service which includes the forks. I didn't do it at 10k because i knew i'd be hittin 20k in just a short period of time and paying for the service twice in 12 months(at $700 each)is just cash I don't have. So, if I get what you're saying, I just pull the forks and ship / carry them to this place and come back a couple of days later right? Would they offer a spring upgrade as a service since they're already in there? (I'm thinking of a more progressive spring swap) |

just a thought; if it costs 7 hundo for HD to do the maintenance, then why not just buy yerself a sweet set of blacked-out forks for 332 each and save the downtime/ass-pain? or is that why it costs 7 hundo and that's what they want you to do |

race tech will rebuild forks for the cost of the tools to do it (+/- a handful of dollars) |

Mel,,,they may be able to do something with the springs. By the way, I have them service my forks (both) for less than $200 last time, seals and oil. I'm not sure the cost of the springs. I would contact Pro-Action here in the area or Factory Connection. Better in my opinion than anything HD can do. |

yeah, so about the pre-BBQ ride: i know the peninsula side of the water like the back of my hand.... oh wait, i was thinking about how well i know the back of my hand. WHO'S LEADING ?!?! i guess we can default to BG McD's, or how's about we rally up at HRHD and hit up the historic Yorktown woodsy trail... Goody, are you be around tomorrow? |

It's 11:30pm and I don't know where we're meeting up in the morning or what time, so I'm just gonna throw this out there: HRHD at 10:00am. This gives anyone who wants to meet there ample time to wake up, get some breakfast, drink some coffee, and be ready to ride then BBQ. Shoot me a text message after 8:00am and let me know if anyone will be there. 757 272 8186. |

The TT with the following mods: 1. XB 9 gearing, drops 4 teeth off of primary drive crankshaft sprocket, YIKES!! 2. AirBox eliminator from American Sport bike. Get the crankcase breather tubes outta the intake tract. 3. Race ECM, hard to come by now. 4. D&D exhaust, Micron offers better performance but I did not like the fitup with chin fairing and theres no mistaking a D&D. 5. XGX graphics, hard to put on myself but for $142 with shipping, not bad. I'd pay to have them put on next time.
