Due to unforeseen issues, I am down to only 2 wheels for transportation. I couldn't care less. My mother was in a car accident the other day; her car was hit in a hit and run. Her car is done for, and she is now pimping around in my ride. This will make things interesting, as I typically only use my car for hauling really large packages around, or for use on days when the roads are icy. Only thing that worries me is that now my Buell is my only transportation, what do I do if something happens? I got flat proof tires so that’s not a risk, but what about some other catastrophic failure? Guess that means I need to buy a second bike to keep as a spare. Perhaps an Ural, with two wheel drive, tons of cargo room, and perfect for the icy weather. Only issue with the Ural is its top speed, perhaps I should get a twin turbo for it so I can do 2wd wheelies down the freeway. I still need to see what the outcome is with the whole accident, they got the runner, and she is a 16 year old girl driving her father’s Benz. Turns out her father owns a Benz dealer, so I might be cruising to work in a SLR McLaren soon |

"Hope your moms is alright." Umm, yeah, specially if she's "pimping around in your ride".... LOL Good on ya, bro! You should get that book on the Vietnamese peeps getting around on their 'sicles. Lotsa pics on how to carry 3 or 4 dozen live ducks, goldfish (!!), your extended famdamily, construction supplies, etc. Read about it in one of the major rags, most recent issue... Or mebbe with your superior 'puter skillz you could produce some pics on your own. At any rate, the situation will make you more creative, a better person, etc. |

Hey, get a nice B or C class diesel out the deal for your mum, then sell your car & buy a small pickup. Job done! |

Yea shes fine, shes tougher than most people on this board, shes pushing 50 and doing roller derby after work every day. Scary part is she is even the fastest one on the team, destroying girls half her age. Good idea Squids, I photoshopped a old Uly pic I had
Grumps I have been lusting for a modern day El Camino for years. Just a few months before my dream came true, Congress pulled the plug on it. RIP Pontiac G8STGXP.

Did the 2 wheel only thing for 10 years. (I did break down and buy a sidecar for the Sportster for grocery shopping and laundry.) Found the Sidecar cumbersome at times, fortunately, it unbolts in about 10 minutes. Also had a back up bike near the end after my father died, I got his BMW K100. I had wanted a Buell since '99 (but chose to buy the XL1200S), and when the 9Rs came out in '03ish, lust set in. She didn't go away, and I finally made the leap to Buell with the '07 XB12R. Then came the dog. 85 pound Shepard/Malamute. Didn't feel that it was fair to him to risk his life in the sidecar (oh how we tried), so I got a beater Jeep. Now the Jeep is my best friend! The Buell is my lover, and my jilted HD and BMW sit un-regestered. I've also run out of space, with all the other bikes that I have owned and set aside (last count 12?). I can't get to all the machines in my shop, it's bad. So, this year I am planing to sell some of them. I'll probably sell the Sportster rig, and the rest of the bits, and keep my dads BMW as a reminder of how much I miss riding with him. BTW, you can put chains on a sidecar if you need to for the snow! |

Actually I was looking at getting Snow Claws for the Uly, I would be unstoppable with them on a Ural.

Froggy, if you don't need to use it very much, why not go & buy a real El Camino, or a Ford Ranchero. A very cool & usefull head turner, parts are cheap & plentiful, they're reliable & they're easy to fix when you have a problem. Classic insurance will be cheaper too. & you can easily get your bike in the back. All that far outweighs the down side of the fuel consumption for me. Plenty on fleabay, do a ride/drive roadtrip. http://motors.shop.ebay.com/items/_W0QQ_dmptZUSQ5f CarsQ5fTrucks?_nkw=El+Camino&_sacat=6001&_trksid=p 4506.m270.l1313&_odkw=&_osacat=6001 |

I took some pics the other day of her car. Damage doesn't look that bad, but it is 10 years old, has 200k miles, and is on its last legs. What sucks is that because it wasn't passing inspection, we just got the thing tuned up, and the tires had less than 100 miles on them. I am not exactly sure what happened in the accident, but the damage clearly shows it getting hit from a high up vehicle, probably a SUV, and it forced my mother into something that took out the passenger side fender and mirror. The car is sitting up in a block, the entire driver front suspension, axle, steering linkage. etc is all shot.

It almost looks like the steering arm off of the spindle was welded and broke at the weld. |

As someone who hasn't owned a car for years I have a few pointers. First off look to see if you have a car sharing program in your area (flexcar/zipcar). If so join it. If not, do you have an car rental location near you? You need to get in a mindset that renting a car occasionally is not a hardship. You just need to plan your day a little better. I plan all my major grocery/costco runs around "rental day" When you figure what the monthly cost on a vehicle is, even the cost of a cheap car is easily 2-3 rentals a month. If you watch for rental deals, sometime you can get the car for the entire weekend for less than a single day (30-40 all weekend). Those are jackpot days. After doing this for years I do not see myself owning a car. I rent what I want, when I want. Today might be a BMW from zipcar, if it is a nice day I might get a mini convertible. If I need a truck I get one. Poor weather? Subie, or a Honda CRV... It is quite liberating to live this way. |

Had a Tracker years ago--two door soft top. Fun rig, totalled at 15mph hitting a no parking sign post in the Home Depot parking lot. FWIW, totalled means bent frame, suspension, arms, busted brake lines, and lots more. How about blue digital camo on a Ural/sidecar??? |
