There is no mental ailment that can't be corrected with copious amounts of cash. Nope. No cure yet. I know the dealer, and I've see the crack. Just no lit pipe yet. |

I don't think you would close a brand if they are profitable on their own, and growing. You might sell it to make money when it is in good shape. I don't think they will do that. You might see Harley Davidson changing some of their items, and re engineering bikes away from the cruisers and more toward standards and bikes like Buell first. Cut the fat at the big plants first, which I think they have been doing. Their stock is up. |

Buell is expanding and selling motorcycles.... and if they build a nice 450 SM/DS bike I will help them with one more unit. That will give me garage detente 2 Harley-Davidsons 2 Hondas 2 Buells |

Buell 25 and out??? Is the sky really falling? When I looked outside today it was beautiful out! Not a single cloud in the sky! Temperatures around the 70 range, couldn't have asked for a nicer day so I went for a motorcycle ride on my Ulysses. Also I couldn't have asked for a better motorcycle either! I think Buell is going to be OK, just keep making those Uly's and there good for another hundred years or so. |

Look at it this way, Buell owners may be the holders of limited run collector's items. Damn, I'm still screwed. |

quote:Harley Davidson (NYSE:HOG) reported Q1 EPS of $0.69, ex-items, topping consensus estimates of $0.51 per share. Revenues in the quarter declined 1.5% year-over-year to $1.29 billion, above consensus estimates of $1.28 billion. The Company also reaffirmed its plans to ship between 264,000 and 273,000 motorcycles to dealers worldwide in 2009, a 10-13% reduction from 2008 and plans to ship between 55,000-59,000 motorcycles in Q2. The company said it expects gross margins for the full year to be between 30.5-31.5%. The company also said it now sees adding 300-400 additional production job cuts over the next two years.
Ya'll did buy when the stock was at $8.19 when I told you in March, right? I didn't buy much but the gain in the last month would have bought and paid for a new Ulysses. I love falling skies. |

"The company also said it now sees adding 300-400 additional production job cuts over the next two years." adding additional job cuts.... So are they adding jobs or cutting jobs? |

>>>So are they adding jobs or cutting jobs? They are cutting 400 jobs. This is good. These folks are highly skilled and highly trained. HD's demand is down so the natural economic movement of resources will find them in other places, perhaps Johnson Controls, where demand is increasing. The shame would have been if HD had responded to decreased demand by not shifting resources. If you need to see how that plays out check out Government Motors (formerly General Motors). I'm keeping my eye on Ford and hoping they don't take bail out money. I will not bank with a bank that takes it, won't buy a car from a company being run by the government. For the coolest management of an auto company check out Porsche. . . they outsource like 60% of their Cayman production. Demand is way off (though the company is making great money) so they simply exercised an early termination clause in their contract in Finland where they were made. Total output is down and no change in hours, output or number of employees at Stuttgart. It's much like what Buell does. |

Say the economy picks up. With all the Buell racing coverage, would it transfer into big sales, especially with the season coming up? By season its not freezing out, down south and Cali I know its year long but everywhere else. A lot of folks been asking me about Buell after hearing about that "fast as hell Buell" that was in the race coverage. |

Actually Court, I did buy 100 shares when you said to at $8. Thanks. Too bad I lacked the nerve to buy more. Any more tips? |

>>>>Any more tips? Never. But the funny part is that Vickie hasn't been working for a year so she has been trading her own account. It ticks me off because she's making more in a day than I make in a month. I don't have the guts for it and I tend to buy things like Harley-Davidson and get "attached" to them. She starts in the morning, sets all her target, places her orders and works in her garden. She may be in and out of a stock, index or currency 3 times in a day. Her big thing is global macro but she's been playing the low hanging fruit lately, buying 100,000 shares of CitiBank and selling it the next morning and so forth . . . Too scary for me. But some of them, like Harley-Davidson dropping to $8 and Morgan-Stanley going to $3 were easy picking. I always say the best trader is a person who can win $5,000 on a slot machine at Atlantic City, turn around and walk out the door. I can't. |
