Unless your own personal brand of "conservatism" includes swastikas on your sleeve and bed-sheet-wearing/cross-burning parties, this doesn't have anything to do with you. Yawn.... |

Highligted portions of the 'report' in blue. I don't have swastikas on my sleeves nor do I wear sheets or hold cross-burning parties. Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority… Texas has a 10th Amendment resolution in the news today. Call me guilty by association. Many rightwing extremists are antagonistic toward the new presidential administration and its perceived stance on a range of issues, including immigration and citizenship, the expansion of social programs to minorities, and restrictions on firearms ownership and use. Call me guilty again. Rightwing extremist chatter on the Internet continues to focus on the economy, the perceived loss of U.S. jobs in the manufacturing and construction sectors, and home foreclosures. That would be strike 3 against me. This ‘report’ is all anecdotal with no supporting research or actual DATA as to how the conclusions were reached. Based on the wording in the report, I am a ‘Rightwing Extremist’. If you are a military veteran, you also rate ‘special consideration’ by DHS according to this ‘report.’ This ‘report’ should have never been placed on paper, and DHS needs to remove their cranium from their rectal cavity. Just my opinion & YMMV. |

Unless your own personal brand of "conservatism" includes swastikas on your sleeve and bed-sheet-wearing/cross-burning parties, this doesn't have anything to do with you. They are classifying more than neonazis in the report. Read from the actual government report: "Rightwing extremists were concerned during the 1990s with the perception that illegal immigrants were taking away American jobs through their willingness to work at significantly lower wages. They also opposed free trade agreements, arguing that these arrangements resulted in Americans losing jobs to countries such as Mexico." That would put me and a lot of other non-neonazis in the "rightwing extremist" category. The government is opening the gates wider to fit more people into this category.} |

Just chiming in, but isn't Free Trade now a favored conservative principal? Thought it was the left-wing, IWW extreme union types who were opposed to free trade. |

Wow I guess that labels me a right winger( though not as extreme as FB), but being aware of larger than life problems in our society makes us extreme? I think a head in the sand faith in government is extreme...and extremely stupid! |

It's a matter of degrees. This is about extremist groups. It isn't about your average everyday conservative or even raving lunatic conservatives like Rush. It's about groups working outside the political system and advocating violence or some other anti-social activity. If they aren't watching these groups and they do something like.... I don't know.... Bomb a federal building in Oklahoma City? Set off a bomb in Olympic Park? Kill a doctor as he leaves a family planning clinic? Then you would be all over the government for not being alert. It's the government's business to watch groups that are anti-government. There are real issues to discuss. This memo isn't one of them. |

If it was a 'memo' instead of a 'report', I'd be inclined to agree with you Bill. But being a 'report' with no supporting data smells/looks like politics run amok to me. I have no problem with being pro-active against threats. I have problems with 'reports' that tell folks where to look for those threats that use such a broad brush to paint a picture which appears to be very politically motivated. Is this government by intimidation? Just asking. |

Bill, I would be inclined to agree were the net not cast so wide as to include ANYONE who disagrees with Obama, his policies, and the Federal Government as "extermists". Were there not recent historical precident regarding securing "radicals" and "dissidents" I believe that the degree of disregard of those poo pooing this report could be afforded. |

I hate to inform you, Bill, but the political system is failing. Our so-called leaders aren't listening to the people, even when the people are overwhelmingly in favor of say...ah, curtailing illegal immigration!!...curtailing spending !!! I see this evidenced on a local level daily. The real so-called nut-jobs are the left-wing kooks who burn down SUV dealerships and threaten meat serving eating establishments. It's becoming increasingly clear of the polarization of society and the inevitability of conflict between the various factions as they strive for dominance. As I've said previously, there are those that impose their will and those that submit. I'm not about to submit. |

Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau is about to be Black Listed and added to the likes of Tom Sawyer and To Kill a Mockingbird. Freedom of speech as long as you agree with their agenda. "To protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and Domestic. " Maybe some of these yahoos oughta go read that document sometime. |

"I hate to inform you, Bill, but the political system is failing." The sky always seems to be falling for one group or another. The pendulum swings one way and then in the other direction. It's swinging left right now, I'm sure in a decade or so, it will be on the way toward the right. Our political system isn't failing. It wasn't failing under Bush. It wasn't failing under Clinton. It wasn't even failing under Lincoln. It isn't failing now. We Democrats said the same sort of alarmist things about Bush that the Republicans are saying about Obama. The content is different, but the tone is exactly the same. It's the system at work. You can believe the hyped up hyperbole of your own party, or you can laugh at it. It all comes down to having one vote each. Use it wisely. |
