Looking at doing this on my XT, but have had no luck with the search function and can't find it in my service manual. Can someone point me in the right direction? DIY for a non-wrencher? TYIA. |

It's not a pulley swap , its swapping the primary gear and chain (which drives the secondary which is attached to the tranny) You are driving the tranny at a lower speed , multiplying your torque. I'll never say anythings not a diy'r job , but this one for a non-wrencher? Maybe best left to a shop. Should be able to get it done for about $250 in parts and about 2 1/2 hours labor charge. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Here is what you will need parts wise....

Thanks for the info. Doesn't look like a tile saw and a nail gun are part of the project. |

The kit from American Sport Bike http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/A17192.html it has the gear already pressed in the rotor so no need for pressing out and in the gear. If you can undo hex bolts and access to some big sockets and breaker bars you can do this yourself. I'd get this tool too to make life easy http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/16075.html I did mine in about 2 hours. |

depending on the year, my service manual suggest replacing the crank nut that holds the sprocket on... a good time to replace the plastic chain tensioner too... |

I did this a few months ago and posted some pics. Here is the link, maybe it will help you decide: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/425775.html |

Thanks, great info. Doesn't look like something I'd take on. Don't have the necessary tools - quit drinking a couple of years ago when I started riding again. |

It is not a complex job, but it is a job with a lot of steps. I was very happy to watch sportymark do it for me. After that, when I had to replace the stator, I could do it myself. One thing to note is that removing the clutch basket requires removing a snap ring. You will need snap ring pliers if you want to remain sane. |

I own snap ring pliers with 3 sets of different size "snappers." |
