After riding today found lots of what appears to be carbon on lower leg of my pants. Usually I dont wear light color pants while riding so I never noticed this before. It was only left leg so i'm assuming its coming out of exaust I did do some stop and go light/traffic riding,maybe bike running rich? No oil leaks or anything like that all cases and oil lines are dry anybody have some input thanks.*******didn't try to look under search sorry if its there**** (Message edited by spdrxb on April 09, 2009) | ||

I usually get a bunch of brake dust on my right leg, but haven't had stuff on my left yet. | ||

Exhaust yes but should there be that much carbon spray coming out of exhaust? It was enough to almost make lower leg of very light pants look gray.Maybe its connected to my "little" lower than average gas mileage froggy suggested in another post. Just looking for opinions or possible issues with way engine is running (Fuel air mixture correct?).There is no issues other than the carbon spray runs good, at idle no stumbling stalling or otherwise at all rpm ranges.  | ||

What kind of fuel do you use (octane level)? Any idea how much ethanol is in it? Is it oxygenated? In spite of what all the octane naysayers have to say, when a motor is burning properly and with a complete enough combustion, you will have a tan coating on the inside of your exhaust, not black. I typically get this with a quality 93 octane that has less than 10% ethanol. Also, I have a station that sells non-oxygenated, non-ethanol 91 octane. My exhaust gets that tan coating from this and runs amazing on it. 100 octane also does it  All of this is to say that if I use a 10% ethanol 91 octane, my exhaust gets the typical black coating and I can see the discharge while it is idling. Run a tank or 2 of the best fuel you can find and see how she does. | ||

OK thank u. The Ethanol content in NH I think is 10% I also think some stations are still useing oxygenated until summer gets here? not sure. However I always use 93 octane or whatever is the "premium" at any given station.And my exhaust outlet is not gray its definetly black soot.Maybe run octane boost? however no running problems I dont want to cause any either. | ||

my Uly's tailpipe points back and covers my back wheel with spooge. until i read this it bothered me, now im thinkin "better the wheel than my leg" haaaa ha ha  | ||

the machine does that its a twin pushing quite a bit of performance theres bound to be some spooge (I like that) don't worry to much unless you start to smell raw fuell or foul plugs | ||

OK guys thanks for info. No raw fuel smell or anything so I will just keep twisting the throttle and enjoying a very unique motorcycle that i'm am very pleased with. Just curious about certain quirks like this that I never run into before. Thanks again | ||

The obvious solution is not to wear light coloured pant while riding. In fact, overpants are not a bad idea. |
