As Captain Spaulding has been known to say" Well shit the bed" Cool, but I'll believe it when I see it. I also remember a few years ago a couple of well respected members of this forum(including one anonymous) claiming Erik Buell had no interest in ever building a water cooled bike. We all know how that worked out. |

....company founder Erik Buell is a massive motorcross fan I was wondering if anyone at HD/Buell was paying attention to the crowd and enthusiasm at Daytona Supercross. They are missing the boat if they don't enter the motorcross segment. Hook em young !! |

I'm not big on dirt-bikes, but put street tires on that thing and you've got a supermoto Blast that would really live up to the name. If I had one of those in the garage, I have a feeling I'd be using it for every trip under 50 miles. |

I can now confirm that there will soon be a Buell 450 cc Dirt Bike. For sure. Recent report on the www.450moto.com web site, which promotes a class of road racers made from 450 cc four stroke singles has the following report: "Concept road racer based on the universal 450cc single cylinder motocross unit and frame, available from all the main OEM’s – Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Yamaha, Suzuki, and coming soon from BMW and Buell." http://www.450moto.net/About.php Just remember that you heard it here first, (just like my Rotax announcement over a year before the 1125R intro).

"Trust me. Erik didn't kill the dirt bike. H-D did." Retards!!! Thank God there have been some upper level changes at HD. Do they have NO frickin idea how to use Buell in a <complementary> and "hook 'em young", like Ferris said?!?! To date, no. They MUST learn to market Buell as the PERFORMANCE and RACING side of HD, BUILD THE DAMN DIRTBIKES CLEAR DOWN TO THE PEE-WEE FOLKS, make it clear and make it cool that Harley-Davidson has bikes for cool peeps as they grow up, position the Hogs as aspirational rides for those 16 YO and up, and RUN WITH IT!!!!! I'm still chapped, after a year's time, when Flickinger told me and the TWO crowd last March that Buell and HD will NEVER be cross-branded with one another. That was one of the stupidest things I've heard from someone in his position. HD is paranoid about "cannibalization"- that's my best guess on that. I only hope that it just wasn't his call to make, and that someone new at HD will see the light. |

While I really wanted a Buell dirtbike, and was as disappointed as everyone else. It may have actually been a very good business decision. With sales going flat, and a new street bike on the plate, it was probably just seen as too much at once. Right now they're probably very glad they don't have a bunch of dirtbikes sitting on the H-D showroom floor. They sure have enough Buells just sitting there. If I hadn't lost 3/4 of my income I'd get a smoking deal on a new CR. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat. I'm just looking forward to the upswing of the economy. Who knows, once the dust settles, and people start buying toys again, Erik will re-visit the dirtbikes. I certainly hope so. |

Plus 1. Marketing is the key. Danny Eslick will have a lot to do with it. I just hope they don't have another "paint the TT" campaign. At MBV I was not sure what was meant by "Cross-Branding," of course I was hanging out with the wrong crowd and my brain cells were jumping ship left and right. I only really remember one question that someone asked me. What year is your S1W? That is another story! |

On a related note, HD upper management just changed. See article here: http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2009/04/07/harle y-davidson-gets-new-leadership/ I posted this in one of the racing threads; Court says these guys bode very well for the future. |

+1, Glitch. IMHO, they've just treated Buell as a "loss leader" on the showrooms next to the chrome barges. Economics being what they are, you make good points. LONG TERM- there's no good reason Buell can't be used to enter a CRUCIAL market segment that HD has never properly tapped. "Big boys and girls ride Buell, runts ride rice..." |

GJ, The article references the "super mono" race circuit. I'M VERY interested in what could come from a super mono offering based upon a 450cc dirt bike. You would have to produce one to get the other. Oh please, please, please.....

I can see this not going well for me. I dont want a damn Mx'er, I want a DUAL SPORT/ SUPER MOTO. It needs to be street legal, it needs lights (for riding off grid at night) and it needs to have decent enough gas to give me a reason to step away from the DRZ that does all that... Damnit, I can see I will have to build it, at least all the parts and components will be genuine Buell |

Froggy..... so close but not it, I do indeed want the watercooled 450cc Rotax motor in there, and some damn GAS. something to make noise to scare the wild life so they dont jump out in front of me while I am riding ! I guess I am being too damn picky (let me know if that headlight puts out a hella huge beam, I have a feeling the headlight on this thing will be needing an upgrade from day one) |

If they are sourcing the motor from Rotax (with Buell specs of course) why not the aluminum perimeter frame as well. CanAm talks about their mass centralization, weight reduction and innovative frame strength.... you could get a traditional tank on it with some capacity... Imagine this frame with only two wheels http://www.can-am.brp.com/en-US/models/ds-450-efi/ base-package/key-features.htm |
