I own a 1125r and a 07 xb12s. I have the ECM spy cable and ecmspy downloaded .I checked my static timing and did the tps reset procedure. I would like to find a performance map for my 12 w stock muffler. Can anyone point me where I can download a good reliable free performance map for ecmspy.thanks

Wow, nobody even tries to find their own answers anymore. The very next thread down from yours was this:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/449542.html?1239130903

If that's not enough to make you think twice about loading someone else's "free" map, then best of luck to you. Best bet is to do your own tuning.

I think Andy may be hinting that you get what you pay for. We have some sponsors here that sell maps that many people are happy with. Personally I don't think these maps should be redistributed beyond the original purchaser. It's just like a software license.

Honestly with the stock muffler (and I assume everything else stock???) the stock map should be reasonably good. Are there specific trouble areas that concern you?

I would like to richin it up a little.I think it would run smoother, cooler ,and respond better. Is there a way i can change the afv to 110 or add 10 percent across the whole map with ecm spy? Im new at this program and didnt see anything in the tuner guide .Would turning off the 02s make the bike run smoother?I have bought daves tuner program for my 1125r and I added 10 percent more fuel across the whole map and the bike runs way better and smoother. So i figured id try it on my xb with the ecmspy program. All help would be great .

ECMspy has a function to add a percent across the entire map. Below the maps there is a * button with a 1.0 just to the left. Plug in 1.1 highlight the entire map and click on the * button. It will multiply the entire map by 1.1. Check the Simultaneous check box and it will do both maps at once. Please carefully double check what I've said. I haven't played with this all winter.

EDIT: Let me add that this will not likely produce the desired result. The ECM will recognize it is running richer and adjust the AFV to lean things out again. You can set the Min and Max AFV values to 100 to keep the AFV from adjusting, but you are losing some of the good stuff that Buell built in. Bottom line is that building a good map is not very easy.

After doing this mod, what was the AFV correction?

As I understand it, no matter what you do in the closed loop cells. The AFV, via 02 sensor, wants the fueling at 14.7:1.

The part of ecm that needs to be changed for optimal performance (12.5 to 13.3:1) is not available to be changed.

(of course I could be wrong)

I know.I looked at the feature you described and made two maps 1 at 5 percent and one at 10 perent .I will burn the min max afv when loading the maps up and disable 02s. If this is wrong correct me. thanks sifo

You've got it, but I think you could do better for yourself.

I've heard of disabling the O2 sensor, but have not found how to do that. How exactly is that done?

If you can set things up to do some data logging then you could download Megalog Viewer and start making more informed adjustments while still keeping it free.

I'm going to chime in and agree with Andy and Sifo. I spent hours last summer working with ecmspy. I tweaked and datalogged for hours. I did get better performance (it pulled harder,) but was still unhappy. Mainly, roll on wasn't smooth. I was alway worried that I had done something bad and was sure I didn't get the most I could. Without wideband o2 data from both headers you can't use the program to its potential.

So, this winter I paid Grandstand designs, (you'ld be surprised who they associate with,) and for $100 (less than we pay for a tire,) I got a map which instantly improved performance beyond what I had done, and continuing support to tweak until my afv was around 100%.

They know how to change stuff in the core files that we can't do in ecmspy.

I still have ecmpsy if I want to further fine tune.

I've heard that American Sportbike sells maps too.

You just can't go wrong with experience.

Yeah, amazing, isn't it? To use our free tool to make profit. Great idea. And not even found it worth asking if they are allowed to use is for commercial purposes ...

To answer that question: no, they aren't.

No good deed goes unpunished. Have you thought about offering commercial licenses? Probably more pitfalls involved that it might be worth, but at least a dollar value could then be placed on the misuse of an otherwise great tool. I've spent a couple of decades of my life developing software and have a good idea what goes into a piece of software like ECMspy. Then there's the job of figuring out the ECM data. My hat is off to Gunter!

Have you thought about offering commercial licenses?

We discussed that topic in the early days of ecmspy, but this would have required to set up a business for this purpose. Mainly tax and product liability reasons made us not go into this. Commercial products are already available and so there's no need to build a new one, but an enthusiast's tool for the private user was missing.

Gunter, I understand this can be a touchy subject, but I paid for data, I got data. The data was arrived at through research time and dyno time. I paid for their time.

The program (which was given to the community for free) was but one of the tools that, I assume, they used.

The same program I used to load the data into my bike. I assume that was the intent in releasing the program to the home enthusiast.

Ecmspy lets me make changes that Harley-Davidson Buell does not want me to make. I don't think it's a coincidence that the factory ECMs and kits are no longer produced. The proliferation of ecmspy to the enthusiast private user seems to have eroded the profitability of HDB producing these items. I suspect that they also try to develop new firmware that wont accept ecmspy data.

America is a free and capitalistic society. If I get something free, it's mine to do with as I please. This includes making a profit. If you find a euro on the ground do you make sure you pay tax on that income, or do you go buy a pack of gum?

Just some thoughts.......

Blacklightning, the issue is that Grandstand Designs in this case is using ECMspy for a commercial purpose. This violates the ECMspy user agreement. Gunter and the rest that were involved did this so that we enthusiasts would have a free tool to use, not so that a professional tuner can get a free tuning tool.

I don't care to get into whether Gunter's decision on this is right or wrong, the bottom line is that he put in the work and gets to decide what the legitimate uses of his work are. In that respect Gunter is right with what ever he puts into a user agreement.

The ecmspy software is not "lost and found", but distributed in a well defined way. By downloading the application, you don't take posession of it, all you get is a right of use - if certain conditions apply. We, the developers and copyright owners, have the right to define, which terms of use apply.

Oh, you're right. You're all right. On a moral and legal basis you're right. I'm talking real world.

I hope none of you ever exceed the posted speed limit or download an mp3 that you didn't purchase or burn from a cd that you bought. I hope every microsoft application on your computer was purchased by you.

I wrote "I assume" it's one of the tools they use. For all I know they wrote their own software. I used ecmspy properly to load an eeprom. It's actually none of my business what they use to modify it.

I would think that Gunter would encourage this kind of use. Obviously, the application is perfect for the brave. We boldly download, datalog, edit and burn; boldly ignoring every warning from HD and even ecmspy. But, there is a segment of riders who want what ecmspy can do, but won't use it, unless they have some support, some guidance. We don't get that from ecmspy. There is limited support. Gunter can't help everyone. We're told there will be no further development, there will be no updated manual, that's because its a free program.

When someone offers a further service through the use of the program, it serves to increase the use of the program throughout the community. It is the natural progression in the use of the program. Shouldn't we find a way to make this work?

BTW, my ex-wife is upset that I have a new girlfriend. She doesn't want me around, but she does't want anyone else to benefit from having me around. Sounds similar.....

You're doing all this for business? Seems to be not a good business model then ...

Are you a commercial ecmspy user? If yes, you are not entitled to use the software. If no, this topic is no concern of you.
