Here is the story, I have tried to do the sidestand bend on my 95 S2 and cannot get it hot enough to bend it. All I have is a propane torch. I am willing to send the sidestand to someone that has done it before and does not mind doing it again. Of course I will pay for shipping both ways and will reimburse you for your efforts. Thanks for any help. Frank |

OR, can someone tell me what to use to get it hot enough so when I hammer it, it will bend. I was using a propane torch but do not think it gets it hot enough. Frank |

Frank, Send the stand to me. I've been planning on doing mine, and it would help to have an extra stand to bend while the bike is still on a side stand for fitting. I can do both at the same time. Loren |

Has anyone tried putting the bend below the spring tab? |

Yes, here are pics of my S2-T sidestand. It is bent below the spring attachment. Remember that the sidestand has to fit or more importantly not interfere with anything when in the up position. The Aaron Wilson bend solves this.
Also note that my S2-T still leans more than a normal bike with this bend. It is not near as bad as stock. I guess I got use to it. Frank |

We just need to get Al to talk to his guy, and get more sideplates done. The ones I have, that use the S1/X1/M2/etc. sidestand? They ROCK. The guy (I don't recall his name unfortunately) was at Homecoming and said he'd been considering another run, but that was the last I heard. If enough people are seriously interested, I could see about pulling mine off and mapping them in the mill here at the shop... |

Well Joe, you know I am interested. The sidestand for the 95 S2 will be in good hands and I am sending it out today. Keys, choke and sidestands are always in different places on all my Buells. I think the S1 has the sidestand in the best place of any bike I have ever owned. |

I have spare sidestands and plates sitting here if someone needs them for a model. |

Frank: the bend needs to be up in the spring area.I did one like yours first time and did not like, but try 2 time was it! http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r200/ebutch/P10 10237.jpg http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r200/ebutch/P10 10233.jpg |

Roger that Butch, my S2-T was bent like that when I got it. Like I said, I kinda got used to it. It does not lean no where the amount the 95 S2 does with the stock sidestand. If I can pick up an extra sidestand, (I missed two on ebay a couple of months ago), I will replace it. Thanks for your help. Will we being seeing you in June for the S2 Gathering? Frank |

Things you learn while bending a kick stand. 1)A 500lb motorbike is heavy 2)Gravity is always on 3)Smooth finished concrete floors are slick 4)Fine dirt makes #3 even slicker 5)Leaning said 500lb motorbike over to check ground clearance is tricky 6)If you do #5 while on your knees, while on #3 & #4 the motorbike and gravity win the wrestling match in slow motion. They simply push you out of the way while you scream like a little girl! 7)Shift and clutch levers can be bent back into shape. LOL |

Loren, I hope everything is ok. I really appreciate you bending my sidestand for me. I am really glad you did yours at the same time so I do not feel so bad. Lynn comes out to the garage to check on me from time to time thinking she will find me under a bike one day. |

No harm done other than my pride, which that will grow back. LOL I'm sure if she finds you under a bike it will be do to heroic efforts to save paint and body work. |

He came to bend the side stand and ended up bending himself! Yikes! . . . motorcycling is dangerous! |

Loren, it works great! Of course after I put it one I had to go for a ride. I still cannot believe the difference in a S2 and S2-T. I may have to put the taller bars and lower pegs on the 95.

Ratbuell sez: "If enough people are seriously interested, I could see about pulling mine off and mapping them in the mill here at the shop..." Well, depending on cost, and shipping to UK, I would be interested in one of those! |

I need a couple of S-2 sidestands bent for me. How much is the going rate? I bought new plates from American Sport Bike to do my Red bike, but cannot afford to do for the other two. I would like to get a couple bent correctly. I can bring to the Gathering, if anyone can do the work? I do not have any torches or any equipment to do that kind of bending....thanks, REX |

it took me 3 tries before i got the sidestand bend just perfect. i used MAPP gas directed exactly where i wanted the bend to be for approx 50-60 seconds straight, then bent by hand with a welding glove on.... and naturally this was with the bike on rear stands. word of advice.. take your sidestand spring off BEFORE applying heat anywhere near it. the heat will loosen the springs tension and make it powerless. i SHOULD have just bought a new spring after i screwed mine up, but instead i cut off the tab on the stand and welded it back on 3/4" lower |
