Coming home a few days ago, I suddenly noticed I had no hydraulic pressure in the clutch. Fortunately, I was only a few miles away from home, and I hit most of the green lights (managing to detour through parking lots in between), so I got home OK with only a couple of brute-force shifts. When I got home, there was fluid all over the clutch cover. Prior to this, I had the infamous weep from the clutch cover, but it was never more than a single drip-line. Never got a drop on the garage floor, my boot, or the driveway. The failure happened at just 4500 miles. I don't stunt or abuse the bike. The good news is that (a) it's a warranty issue and (b) thanks to my extended warranty I'm on a Screamin' Eagle Nightster while they order the parts and fix it. Anyone actually have the clutch FAIL with no warning other than the apparently benign weep? (Message edited by MarcoDeSade on April 05, 2009) | ||

Clutch slave cylinder failure, most probable. Clutch failure, unlikely. Clutch slave cylinder issue's with some of the 08 bikes. The dealer will fix it. Enjoy the Nightster (Message edited by rsh on April 06, 2009) | ||

Not just an issue with '08 bikes. After 3 trips for a Warranty fix of seals etc to my bike, a '09 cover was installed (although I fail to see how this is 'better' internally. I now have a weep from from the '09 cover. Buell UK was asked if I had to tolerate a leaking clutch and continual replacement of seals for the life of the bike and they replied that a more satisfactory solution is in the testing phase at the moment. Perhaps Annony could give an update because I ride with a plastic bag over my new boot? (having already wrecked my favourite pair with the previous major leaks). | ||

The '09 cover does not fix the clutch leak problem. I have had my clutch fixed numerous times. They have done everything form replacing the seals and an update to rev b ('09) cover to replacing the seals, sleeves, pistons, etc. It is now leaking again. I hope they come out with this new fix soon. This will be the sixth or seventh fix for my clutch. Mike | ||

Holy crap kt! How many miles? Incidentally, I got the bike back Thursday night. Sure did miss it, but after a week on a Nightster it was like relearning to ride all over again! God I love this bike . . . | ||

Mine has dribbled since she was a month or two old as I recall. Long time, whatever. Not a lot of fluid loss, never a spot on the floor, I've topped it off twice. I put a RevB cover on after I slid her out the parking lot, last Fall. It just takes longer to get over the edge of the new cover. No need to "brute force" the gearbox, it slips in very nicely with a gentle nudge, up or down. Only tough part is stop/start - duck walk until fast enough to drop into first. So I got it back and it was leaking again within 2 days. All by itself that would have been OK (I guess), but after another couple of days the battery dies, leaving me stranded 10 miles from home in the middle of the night. I paid $50 for a jump start from a tow truck. The only good news in the deal is that this time they gave me a Soft-tail for a loaner. Between the 2 times in the shop, I've now broken even on buying the extended warranty . . . |
