I converted my bike over to the xb rocker box covers. I put on 300 miles today and the rear rocker box is leaking bad. I checked the bolts and they are tight and the gaskets were brand new? What can I do to stop it from leaking? | ||

Sounds like either something was in the way of the seal or the box is warped. Did you torque it down per FSM instructions? | ||

"i" made up some special tools to TORQUE the rocker arm supports and cover ... If not installed correctly, one can distort the aluminum parts ... Take it apart and do it over again where leaking !!! | ||

I did that I am going to try to replace the gasket and see if that does any good. I have to get the part number though, I had it written down but can't find it. Does anybody know the part number for the gaskets? | ||

That's why I bought Cometic rocker gaskets for my XB rocker conversion, cuz I can reuse them. Cometic just came out with them about 2 months ago. | ||

I shanged the gasket and it is still leaking. I'm thinking it is a bad rocker box cover! I'm ganna have to take the cover off and see if it is warped. Does anybody have a cuss free way to get the rocker cover off | ||

You've got an allen wrench cut down to fit on that rear, back right, difficult to reach allen bolt? (That helps with the cussing a lot, still kind of fiddely work though). If you haven't, pick up one you don't mind cutting and it really helps the job... Did you tighten the hardware crosswise like you'd do with your lug-nuts? That cover can flex a bit so don't snug any bolt down before going to the next, and loosen them all before removing. Maybe you did it this way but since all the technical info so far was "If not installed correctly, one can distort the aluminum parts ... " Hope your covers are okay, good luck! | ||

I had it off once allready to replace the gasket and I did the cross pattern on tightening and loosening. I have the cut down allen wrench for that bolt I just cant get the rocker box out! | ||

Remember that you have to torque these down differently than lug nuts in the fact that you torque it down a little at a time. I don't have my FSM with me, but Buellistic or somebody will hopefully see this and better detail it. | ||

You have a two part rocker assy now, not three, right? Sorry, just trying to start simple. It's a bit tight but you shouldn't have to remove anything but the tank to get them out. | ||

yep two part. The cover doesn't clear the frame. I talked to a tech at the shop and he said it only fits in one way so I will have to keep twisting and cussing until I get it out | ||

There is a special tool at American Sport Bike for that rear Allen. | ||

yep, a 1.00 allen wrench cut down so it fits! |
