Has anyone with an H.I.D. swap gotten their headlight recall taken care of yet? Did you guys take all of your H.I.D. stuff off before you had it done? I'm getting mine done soon and didn't know if I should put it back to stock. Thanx |

Leave it on. I've got HID on mine, they only commented on how freaking bright my lights are. Its only a swap of the buckets and glass so nothing needs to be changed for your HID to work in it still. |

My only reason for taking it out would be so they can't say that it is the reason for the deteriorated coating and then not do the recall. I would definitely put the H.I.D. back in. I just didn't know if they would say anything about it. Thanx for the input. |

The very nature of it being a recall is an admission of a pre-existing defect in the part. If it is your fault, why would they volunteer their services, or how would they even know your light is bad? They are getting paid to replace a part not diagnose the cause of failure. Sorry for the diatribe, just feeling a little froggy this morning. Snow is supposed to be on the way....grrrr. PS "little froggy" heh heh |

Thanx for the input Ourdee, that makes sense. Maybe i'll just leave everything in and take it to them. BTW I feel you on the weather, this has been a very up and down spring so far for me too. |

>>>The very nature of it being a recall is an admission of a pre-existing defect in the part. please explain that. I'm pretty familiar with FMVSS and recall processes and procedures and I disagree with you. I think what you meant to say is that "in YOUR opinion". If someone decides tomorrow that they want to recall every thing they've ever made there is nothing stopping them. In the case of Buell, they have VOLUNTARILY recalled several things that THERE WAS NO PROBLEM with, no design defect and no danger. The recall was simply because a vendor failed to keep proper QA/QC records. I'm eager to hear your logic. To the best of my knowledge there has never been a recall on any headlights. In fact one enterprising Badwebber called the NHTSA and they sent a rep to his house and, after months, dropped the case. |

Recall yes sir, I called no one about my problem with the headlights on my bike. Yet I received a letter in the mail about 9 months ago with my VIN on it saying I should get to my local Buell dealer and have the headlight assemblies replaced, and if I sold my bike to let them know to whom I sold it to. Which is beside the point of my initial post. |

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to hit on a touchy subject, this was not my intention. I only wanted input as to whether I should remove my HID before the dealer replaces my headlight or not. Thanx to everyone who supplied input on this |

The very nature of it being a recall is an admission of a pre-existing defect in the part EXPLANATION: I may very well have not worded my message properly, so as to convey "MY" meaning. It would have been better to say, I consider it a recall when one is contacted by another to return a product one has purchased to be worked on for whatever reason the recaller has without the one asking for the repair or initiating the contact for said work. There is a difference between something being called scrap and something being said by me to have a defect. A defect does not have to imply that an item is unacceptable for it's intended purpose. In my opinion in today's accountability in manufacturing processes a lack of certification can be construed as a defect. If no matter how voluntary on Buell's part I am requested to bring my bike in for some kind of replacement of a part that seems to be working fine, "I personally" consider that a recall. Yes, in my opinion, I should put that in my profile. OK, enough of a rambling diatribe. The jist of my post was to say just go get whatever they want to do to it done and don't worry about your bulbs and wiring. It was not my intention to disturb you Court. I do appreciate your keeping me honest and accountable for my words. It was my intention to wake up Froggy, just to say hi. Will I still be getting some coffee? |

Manimal, you should probably contact your dealer. They will look it up by VIN. At least thats what my dealer needed after I showed them the letter I received in the mail. The letter does specify 2003-2006 XB9r or XB12r. Hope this helps. |

Dennista15 The HIDs are easier on the reflectors than bulbs. Less power, more light and much less heat. It would be hard to mount a case that they did the damage. The recall doesn't cover all '06 bikes here. I wondered if the later bikes that are excluded were being treated under warranty, instead. The lights on my '07 weren't all that great. |

>>>It was not my intention to disturb you Court. You did not disturb me. Your information was inaccurate and the internet is bad about having folks read something like that and take it as fact. I simply corrected the information. |

On the subject of headlights, are the 2007 XBRs going to get new eyes at some point? We have the same cruddy lights as 03-06 and it seems like we should get the update too, my opinion of course. -d |

Well I just got back from getting my headlights replaced. I'm not impressed at all with Harley service. I wish that they would have just given me the parts so that I could have put them on myself. I understand that they can't do that tho. As I now have to redo everything that they did, in less time no doubt, because they installed my low on the left and my high on the right. Then they put my HID in my high. Ugh, I wish Buell would get away, far away from Harley-Davidson. I'll post up later after I fix everything to let you guys know if it's better than my foil job lol. |

I talked to my nearest dealer, and they said they would loan me the tools to do it in thier driveway. |

Gunut75, I would jump on that before they change their mind. I asked my dealer about putting them in on my own and they gave me some BS about not guaranteeing it, and then they put them in wrong anyways lol. They will need your old housings to send back to Buell. |

Yeah, thats why I will have to do it in their driveway. The tech told me that it should take .4 hours by the manual. One of the trim rings around the lens is cracked, so I'm waiting for the parts to come in, to see if that ring is included. If not...................I'll keep waiting. |

If its the black piece that the lens is in then yes it comes with it. You'll get two completely new headlight assemblies: the headlight buckets and lenses. If the part that is cracked it the trim on the fairing then you'll have to get that. They are supposed to re-aim your lights as well, at least thats what it said in the work to be done for the recall. It described making sure proper air was in the tires prior to re-aiming the headlights. I can't say if this was actually done on my bike, if it was done it was a waste of time because I had to swap the headlights back around. I don't know how much it would be necessary since you're just swapping headlights and not messing with the bracket that they are mounted to. |

I have a 03 xb9r and never received a letter or call probably because I have moved provinces and the bike wasn't register in new province until this week but I just had service done and the new dealer and they didn't mention anything and they must have run my VIN to sign off the safety off. should I call buell customer service or the new dealer to get the recall kill shipped? |

Hi Buggie Put your VIN into this link https://www.harley-davidson.com/EX/MNT/SCHK/en/ser vicecheckup.asp?locale=en_US&bmLocale=en_US It will tell you if you are eligible for the recall. |
