The horn on my 2000 X1 sounded like something was clogging it when I bought it. It would sputter for a couple seconds before getting louder.. was pretty funny actually. I replaced it with a stebel nautilus. The only horn problem now is not scaring myself every time I honk it. When stebel advertises 139dB they aren't kidding! |

I had my contacts bent back a bit and my horn would short (to the frame I think) and blow the fuse, went through several fuses before I figured that one out. |

Pkforbes87, could you please post where you got your horn from? I've only used mine a couple times but would like one that is as loud as a train to overpower cellphone speakers |

I got mine here IIRC. You'll have to install an extra relay in the horn circuit - the new horn draws a lot more current and will blow your fuse fast if installed without the relay. It's only about a 1" cube so not too difficult to find a place to put it. http://www.bikerhiway.com/stebel-nautilus-compact- motorcycle-air-horn-black-p-869.html |

When I put the factory fan kit in my X-1, I had to move the horn, per the instructions. Tried the horn later, and it just made a weak bleat. Loosened up the padded clamps, and it worked properly. |

Factory horns are adjustable for volume/tone. There's a spot on it that looks like a dab of black silicone; it is. Under that is a phillips screw. (Do this OUTSIDE - it gets loud). Hit and hold the horn button while turning the screw inside the silicone until you find a "good spot". Basically what it does is control the pressure against the diaphragm, allowing it to vibrate more or less when you hit the button. If you want when you're done, you can put a schmear of silicone back on top where you had the screwdriver. |

Ah yes... the horn... I forget about that every year until its inspection time.... The best one I had, was a Hella 500Hz..... Lay into that thing, and people were looking for a Semi or a Dump Truck... Chase |

I replaced mine with the horn from a Blast. I mounted it under the seat when I installed the fan kit. |

haha.. glad to hear that you like it. Did you get yours mounted in the stock horn location? I got tired of trying to make it fit behind the left scoop on my X1, so it's just sitting under my seat. |

Legal or not it will do its job when you need it to, specially with cell phone, IPod, or air head cagers around. Did it install exactly in the OEM spot? How about the relay? Thanks. |

how compact actually is that horn? where did you mount it? (it looks funny).i got a piaa horn & i'm not really happy with it. i mounted it in the stock location. for all the hype in the ad it really isn't that loud, kinda sounds like a high note horn. |

It is in the stock location i just bolted it right up. I have some wire loom to install to clean up the wiring, I will post pics when i finish maybe tonight if stops snowing. |

Here is the pics of the horn installed
The relay i installed under the tail section using a longer bolt, I used the deluxe wiring kit option when i bought it, Also i got some wire loom from harbor tool and freight so i could hide the wires better. The actual horn parts is almost the same as stock but add a redbull can to it and that will be the approximate size of it on the bike. |

I have a horn?!? I just squeeze the clutch and rap the pipes off. I get a lot better response that way. |

So it sounds like the stock air scoop will not fit over the horn/compressor unless the "can" is moved somewhere else on the bike. Thanks for the photo. |

Kalali - the horn and compressor are one unit. I don't think there's a way to mount the horn in the stock location and move the compressor elsewhere. Out of curiosity.. Has anyone here used horns other than the nautilus? Any reviews? |

They can be separated, just have to have a length of tubing to connect the two together. Can probably be found somewhere in the archives. |

Ok now i can't stop honking at people, I love this horn. I was in the mountains and this cager parked his jeep partly in the road and was standing by it so......I thought i would give him a little treat and i hit the button....He jumped into the weeds like i threw a hand grenade at him and he jumped up and was flipping me the bird |
