I just signed up for the IBA Great Lakes Challenge. www.mctourer.com/rides/2009/GreatLakes/

I did this ride once before on a stock HD Road Glide. It took me 66 hrs. The first day thru Canada was a light drizzle that changed to snow at night. I spent 10 hrs in a hotel while the hardcore riders kept going.

I've learned quite a bit since then and will try to do the same ride in under 50 hrs.

Will keep you guys posted, wish me luck.
Any other iron butters up for a challenge?

Bob

Bob, is this the same ride you did two years ago on your Uly?

Bob; Good Luck! I once did 2400 miles in 75 hours back in 1973.(Colorado Springs to Lafayette, LA and back) It kicked my ass. You've got my respect and admiration. Please keep us posted.

Bob,
Best wishes for a great ride, and luck in aligning all the stars to make the extreme ride successful. Looked at this ride but it is 1 week too late; 60+ day work commitment starts on July 22...damn.

Doing the CF1000 again this year. Trying to sort out some gremlins in the electrical system, centech AP-1 melted at the PIAA connection for no obvious reason.

Don,
No this is my first attempt on the Uly. Two years ago I did the Ride Around Texas, maybe that's what your thinking of.

Flyuly,
I did the CF1000 a couple years ago. I like the different starting location set up. It's a nicely run event. My trouble is that weekend, I have two of my kids birthdays and my wedding anniversary. Good luck on the ride, happy bonus hunting.

Good luck Bob, this is a ride I'd like to attempt some day. Gonna practice multi-day rides this year....

Bob:

That looks VERY cool! . . .not sure I have that kind of riding in me anymore (according to my wife, anyway) but I can't wait to hear about your experience.

That ride brings back some memories. I did the TS version and it was one of the hardest rides I've done. Light drizzle all morning for the start then light snow.

I remember wearing every stich of clothing I had with me trying to stay warm(no heated gear).

Riding down 129 from Wawa to Iron Bridge was a treat at night in the snow. There was a couple following us to the stop at the burned out gas station. When we got there the rider thanked us for letting him follow us because he couldn't see anything but tail lights. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I could barely see the road either.

One of the best riding memories I have is crossing the bridge back to the US in New York. It was late afternoon, no wind, perfect temp., and finally back on interstate to make some time.

Good luck Bob

You missed the most scenic part of the ride. I was shaking so bad, no electrics either, I stay in a hotel in Wawa, then took off early the next morning. The road followed a river, I saw three Moose and a big black bear. Bear was about 30 feet off to the side of the road. Rural, remote Canada, just fantastic.

Did you have the same crabby custom agent entering the US? I couldn't remember my license plate number. The agent gave me some grief about it, since he had to get up off his duff and walk about three steps to the rear of my bike.

Hopefully by starting in Duluth vs Eau Claire, I'll be going through that section in the early evening hrs.

Both border crossings were a breeze for us. I need to go back to 129 and see it in the light.
We finally stopped in Sudbury for 6 hours of sleep and warning up.

I finished in just under 50 hours. Great memories.
Duluth start should be a little better, again good luck and ride safe
