I did mine myself i just made a checklist and went down through it and annotated anything that i had found. I also kept the receipt for the filter/oil and anything else that i needed for the service. I put that inside a Maint. folder i started for my bike.

well 240 is way overcharged. At my local dealer it was 1 hour labor 3 qt sny3 and a filter that added up to 125$. I dont know where they got 240 but i would do some price shopping.

1st oil change was done when I got home from the Dealer on day one. Heck 600 miles was within 5 days. By that time it was the 3rd oil change. I went through the 600 mile checklist myself and kept on riding. At 18,558 miles and 12 months, everything is doing GREAT.

Buy your supplies at the dealer and do the work yourself.

Make sure you are logged into the parts system and that they have a record of your purchases.

If there are any warranty claims that come up, you have a record of having purchased the supplies and kept up with the service intervals.

You are not required to have the dealer to complete service work in order to honor the warranty.

By law.

If you know what you're doing, DIY.
All the first service entails is changing the oil and filter and checking critical fasteners.

Critical fasteners are those that will kill you if they fall off.

If you don't know what you're doing, everything is a critical fastener, let a certified wrench do it.

I did my own 12.4k and it's not for the inexperienced, although it is straightforward and logical.
The FSM does a good job of getting you thru the process.

Still, I got a little nervous, knowing "I" would be riding it at speed, I better not F/U.
So far, so good.
