About a week ago I laid down my bike and it ended up wrapped around a curb. thank god for the sliders saved a lot of damage. There's still pretty substantial damage to the rims (which my tire/wheel road hazard protection isn't going to cover, cause the tires still hold air?? such BS) and there's some scuffs to the throttle side of the engine (anyone know what that round cover is called.?? the clutch line runs to it.) Just wondering if anyone has any idea on how difficult it would be to replace the part myself?? seeing as my dealership wants to estimate an hour and a half labor on it. any help would be appreciated, thanks guys |

My good friend laid his XB12R down last year at 45 MPH, broke his collar bone and really smashed the bike up. He didn't have sliders so his full fairing kit took the brunt of the damage. The dealership was very helpful in the "what to do" process. I can't tell you what to do to fix it. If it were me I would let the dealership handle it. I trust the techs at mine not to overlook anything that could get you in trouble later on. If anything I would work more with your insurance company to find some loop holes in your policy or what not. If they have retarded rules inside the policy like that, get another insurance company. Good luck, and for craps sake are you ok? I would assume so considering that you mentioned the bike only. How did you lay her down? |

Yeah i'm doing better, i hit a pile a pavers that a truck dropped in the middle of the road. smacked my head pretty hard and landed on my shoulder. don't think anything is broken maybe a bruised rib or two. The bike ended up wraped around a curb. |

Hey Supertt, Hope you're okay! Sorry for you're misfortune. Not sure as to how to guide you, however, I'm very curious about the wheel and tire insurance you have on your R. Can you talk a little bit about that? Thanks and get well soon! |

Yeah I purchased the tire/wheel coverage option that every dealership offers you when you buy your bike(mine provided by Fidelity). They admit the wheel is "bent" yet they won't replace it because the tire itself does not need to be replaced, because it still holds air??... as it stands the grinded sharp edge of the rim is millimeters from the tire's sidewall, not a rim i feel safe riding on. I'm besides myself with what to do.. unbelievable.. |

This is from Part 2 of the Harley-Davidson ESP/Tire and wheel coverage which is available on New and pre-owned Buell Motorcycles from all HD/Buell Dealers "TIRE AND WHEEL OPTIONAL COVERAGE (Optional Surcharge) WE will pay for COSTS to repair or replace the original equipment or like replacement tires and/or wheels of YOUR MOTORCYCLE that fail due to contact with a road hazard (pothole or debris on the road surface such as nail, rock or tree limb)" Sounds like Fidelity sucks |

How much does the coverage cost? My dealer was unaware of such coverage other than it's inclusion of the purchase of the in house extended warranty, to the tune of $2k. |

The HD ESP is available in 12 month increments for up to 7 years from the date of purchase of the motorcycle. A three Year ESP would provide some additional coverages that the factory warranty doesn't cover, and then you can add the additional Tire and Wheel protection. At the dealership I use, a three year coverage (12 months of additional mechanical protection beyond the factory warranty plus the tire and wheel coverage starting on the date you purchase the protection) runs $899.00 within the first 90 days or 2000 miles. That same protection runs $1,049 after 90 days or 2000 miles. Of course the more ESP time you buy the less the yearly cost works out to. In the case of Supertt_fl's situation, I believe it would have at least saved him the cost of a wheel $336.00 plus the $50.00 in bearings, and covered the labor charge to swap the tire and balance everything. I think he would have broken even at least on the cost of the plan. I'm not sure if it would have covered anything else but he might have scored a tire as well as the liability of installing a tire from a damaged wheel onto a new wheel is pretty darn high for a dealership. If the service guys were on top of it, they probably could have prodded the ESP people to include the tire replacement. Just my .02 |

Shoot me a PM with all the parts you need, that "round thing" is R1029A.1AM, DIAPHRAGM RING ASSY W/PLUG & GRAPHIC, MSRP 317.00. I'll build you an MSRP quote and I'll tell you what I can do for you. I'm a parts guy at High Country H-D/B, a sponsor. I slid mine on the throttle side at ~20 mph and it cost me 260, with a nice discount. That same cover and a radiator pod. On a "tubeless". holding air is critical to warranty. You might try beating it back with a dead-blow or lead/copper mallet. Do not hold me responsible for any ill effects tho. Glad you're OK. call it a lesson. That's what I call anything I can walk away from... Z |

My coverage was only $457 tax included, for 5 years or untill the tire wears past 2/32. |

Zac, PM Sent! "I slid mine on the throttle side at ~20 mph and it cost me 260, with a nice discount. That same cover and a radiator pod." Yeah if you could get me a similar deal on those same two parts that would be phenomenal. Alton |

i ordered my parts from the internet, clutch cover and radiator pod as well. i think it was around $300 for the parts with shipping. had my dealership install them during a service, so the labor wasn't an issue. Bike was still rideable so I wasn't in too big of a hurry. |

i trust my dealer as far as i can throw them! sad thing is i've heard they are the best in the area! i paid an arm and a leg for the first service. mind you, the only thing that my 1125r has leaked was clutch fluid, from the weep hole on the clutch cover which they replaced, twice because they did shotty work the first time and bangged the cover up with the wrench. with that said, after i laid mine down and had to completely tear it down to get the frame off, in the process i noticed there was absolutely no antifreeze in the resevior nor was there any in the throttle side radiator! they were both bone dry! man was i upset. anywho, good to hear your alright man! i've had 2 spills, one at 60mph, knocked me out cold! walked away though and the bike was only scratched! the other i flipped it and somehow landed on my feet... still have to replace plastics, so if you find a reasonable price let me know, and i will do the same! take care~! |

Rdmwc, I see you're in Pewaukee. Are you meaning Hals? I've had nothing but good things with them in th 6+ years I've dealt with them. Mistakes happen from time to time. But I've had nothing but great service from them. They've ALWAYS taken care of me, and gone above and beyond the call of duty to make sure I was happy. They also have a couple of the best Buell techs in the biz. That doesn't always mean THEY work on your bike. If you ever take your bike in there again for service. Make a special request to ONLY have Danny or Dean work on it. Explain your past experiences with them as to WHY you want them, and only them work on your bike. |

Just saw this thread title (for some reason) and I have to wonder: Wouldn't it have been a LOT less typing to simply say: "Crashed, Need Help?" Bikers are a funny lot. They REFUSE to say "I crashed." It's always "I laid the bike down." Why is that?? |

I laid down my bike the other day, I was a retard and put up the kick stand while doing some chinspoiler work. The bike was on my Pittbulls, but I forgot to put the sidestand back down before lowering the bike. Needless to say, I slowly laid it down as I didn't have the strength or leverage to hold it steady after I realised my mistake. No biggy, no damage. I have laid down my old Uly a few times as I lost my footing. Again, same thing, eased her down to the point that there was no damage. I have wrecked just as many times too! Only once I have crashed. |

I knew one MSF RiderCoach who confessed he "laid his bike down" many times. Since his Harley didn't have a center stand it was the easiest way for him to change his rear tire... |

How does one wreck a bike without crashing? Dropping a large heavy object on it? Or really ham-fisting a "repair?" |

I guess technically its collisions with the ground. My Uly wreck was single vehicle on the Saw Mill parkway. I have had other smaller "wrecks", like hitting ice and diesel slicks. My "collision" was when on my Suzuki 500, I came over a hill and there was a car stopped for no apparent reason, I locked the rear brake, didn't use enough front, and plowed into the car. Bastard took off and I couldn't chase as the bike wouldn't restart, bent the forks. |
