On a Buell at least, it is the closest thing to flying, next to amusement park rollercosters.....but you have the controls. |

I will be the odd man out here, I met my wife on mine. We dated on it, went to the drive-in on it, quick runs to get munchies on it. Then sold it to have cash for a house. 10 years later got another one, this bigger better faster than the last. She told me to get one...So I did. We still date on it. 17 years worth of dates on a motorcycle(well actually 7). |

I would sell my car and eat the loan on it WAY before the scoot goes! And, if I did? The bike is paid for, gets better fuel economy, and is a hell of a lot more fun. |

Before I started riding, I used to spend my spare time hunting bald eagles and transporting invasive species from lake to lake in a cooler.
Now?
I hardly ever do either anymore.

The best thing for me is when I'm riding and I realize I'm on a road I've never been on before, and discover a new set of great twisties or something cool to see.
Speaking of which, what the hell am I doing wasting a perfectly good day sitting in a cubical? Oh yea, it's that whole "work-make money" thing...  |

it's tired, but it fits:

it's that other-worldly, otherwise-impossible-to-attain feeling that makes me yell and giggle in my helmet like a 3 year-old on a good sugar buzz.
that feeling you get when you're out all alone in the middle of nowhere, and the front tire starts to gently rise as you come off the corner just right...
it's not like love, or sex, or drugs...but it's kinda like like all of them, too.
something always gets lost in the translation when i try to describe it, and i usually end up sounding like a dribbling idiot.
it's OK, though....i just go riding to make myself feel better |

While riding a XB12S last year, I figured out what it is for me. When I was a child, I flew in my dreams with my body upright or slightly forward and my knees slightly bent behind me. When I got bit by the riding bug, I had sat on a Suzuki VX800. It has a riding position similar to the Lightning. I get the same feeling when I am on the S or an R. The bike seems to disappear and it is just me flying down the road.
I do commute on my bike to save gas. Of course being one with your surroundings is a part of it also. |

The cross section of people who are motorcyclists is fascinating.
I've met so many interesting people since becoming a coach. If it wasn't for motorcycles, I prolly would have never crossed paths with 99% of my students. We would have zero in common if not for this awesome hobby (lifestyle?) we share.
As a bonus, I look forward to going to work each day! As a former hatchet woman, I never knew what it felt like to love your job. I've got a better quality of life because of my motorcycling addiction. BeLinda. |

The best thing about motorcycles has kind of evolved for me over the years. I started riding as a kid. I think I was maybe 8 years old when I got my first bike. It was a dirt bike of course. I loved getting air on it and doing wheelies. Even after my first and only bad accident I was fearless on it. It was just a joy. It had nothing to do with stress relief or getting away from it all. I was 8 for crying out loud.
I had a bike pretty much from then on till I got married and loaned my bike to a "friend" who wrecked it and left me bikeless. I didn't have the money to replace it then and was without a bike for many years. Finally I bought my Dyna and now I understand the stress relief side of things. It is still something I just enjoy doing. It has changed from getting air and doing wheelies for me to getting out on the road and leaving the world behind, if just for a few minutes.

I agree. Tends to get the sheeite out of my head right quickly. (After lunch, riding all day, gonna drop the kids off at the pool sometime...)

+1! Jman, this is one of the truest things you've evar said. Even though is can kill you almost anytime, the net effect is that it makes you more alive than you ever would be not being a rider. And I mean, a RIDER.
Sorry bout your loss. When the time comes, let me know when you're in the market again. Although I'm not in that line of work anymore, I still can keep a hairy eyeball out for your next steed. You're one guy (I know several) who really shouldn't be without a motorbike...
My 2cents: Riding makes you a better cage driver. Better person. Better lover. Interestingly, my old Shovel has an effect on the GF that few motorized devices can offer. Better than sex, but it HELPS sex too.

Well yeah, I guess so, but have you never seen Braveheart? That is what they were yelling at the start of that battle against the Brits. Of course that was right after Wallace did hid famous taunting start, by showing his arse! |
