I pulled the front caliper off of the S2 over the weekend and was going to put new seals in it from American Sportbike. However, I noticed that two of the pistons were seized. When I got them out the middle two pistons had the chrome flaking off of them and were all rusted up. Has anyone on here ever replaced the pistons for these PM calipers? Are they still available? |

Has anyone on here ever replaced the pistons for these PM calipers? Are they still available? For some reason I am thinking that Henrik did and had some pointers . . . we may have to do a search. Sure they are still available. |

They are not available unless you buy the whole caliper (somewhere around 400 dollars). The way to get stuck pistons out is to soak them in denatured alcohol all night then GENTLEY remove them so you can reuse them. I got an extra set from Ratbuell when I tried to force mine out and ruined them. The other option is to grab a caliper off ebay or somewhere but you will want to rebuild it as well. There was a link to an aftermarket source to the pistons but I did not save it. Do a search and it will pop up along with the measurements of the pistons themselves. |

They are available. I ordered some for mine about a year ago. H0020.0 is the part number for "rebuild kit, caliper". Actually, a -94y part number is the "rebuild kit, caliper", and it supercedes to the H0020.0 which is described as "seal kit". But, I'd *swear* this is the kit I bought that had pistons in it. It's just been so long since I bought it (and looking it up, it *is* the kit I bought) I don't recall. Frank? You got the kit from me, didn't you? I know I had this kit. I know I had pistons. I just don't remember if this part number was on the piston package. Musta drowned that brain cell.... |

I was unable to get the kit through HD, they told me it was discontinued. After the second dealership told me that I went to the BadWeb and got them from you. I have rebuilt 3 sets of calipers in the last year so if you can still get them Joe I will be interested as well. After my first attempt I was able to do the other two without much issue. I soaked them completely, over night and used rubber inbetween the vice grips to get the ones out that caused problems. |

Mike, if Joe cannot come up with anything let me check to see what I have in the parts box tonight. I have so much Buell stuff in boxes from rebuilds that it is like Christmas when I have to look through them. |

But what you got from me - did it have pistons? Or was it just seals? *That's* the detail that's escaping me at the moment... <sigh> old age sucks... |

You sent me the pistons and only the pistons. I am real interested to see if you can get them again. (Message edited by f_skinner on March 24, 2009) |

I will take a set. I should show it to my local dealership. I should say this was before I switched dealerships. My local one is 5 miles away. The one I use now is 110 miles away. That pisses me off to no end. Frank |

H0020.05AH is what we need. I think he got the seal set from Al but I need to re-read his post. How much? |

I was thinking Henrik got his direct from PM but Buell may have them back in stock now. I'm tempted, if no one here is going to order, to order a set and see what I get and how long it takes. |

H0020.05AH comes up as an active part, no notes (and no 5 day wait, either!) I do know I had pistons at one point. H0020.05AH comes up with no history at all here, and I'd have bought what I did, here. <shrug> I'm cornfuzed. |

I think he did get them direct from PM. I also think that he had the measurements for each of the 3 different sizes for the S2 caliper. I had planned on giving them a call when Joe offered them for a trade. You got that fender on the S1W yet Joe? |

Aha ! . . . . now I remember. I spent time on the phone, the gal was a PITA, then they didn't take AMEX and I hung up. Now I guess I'd better get a kit just in case.

WOAHHH!! I just got back to the web and you guys have been all over this! Thanks for all of the info. I posted this up at work and didn't have a chance to do a whole lot of searching (here or elsewhere). I did go on the PM web site but it didn't help much. Frank, Thanks for the link to Henrik's original post. I went out and measured my pistons and they match what he had listed. I'm going to call them tomorrow and order two sets, so I can stick one back on the shelf for later. I wasn't paying attention when I ordered the kit from Al. I thought it had pistons with it, but it didn't. And I would have seen that if I had taken the time to read it! I did get a new wave rotor from Al (that is what started all of this). Man! Does that thing look nice on there! One thing that I did get off of the PM site, while looking over their literature is that they have a shim kit for their calipers. I'll have to order one of those too as it looks like the caliper off center by 20-30 thousandths (just eyeballed so far). Thanks again for the rapid info! I'll post up here to let everyone know how it went with the pistons. Oh, I did call up the local Buell shop with the part number for the front caliper rebuild kit, but it was only the seals. I didn't see that part number listed for the pistons... |

Ratbuell,I guess I misread your post..Are you saying that #H0020.05AH is the part number from Buell for the PISTON SET? Heck, that's cheaper than what Henrik listed from PM! If that is the case I'll take two sets from you... Let me know... |

I haven't verified the AH is a piston set. Hell, I can't even remember if the O was just seals or if it had pistons in it. At $30, I can't imagine the 0 has pistons...but I still *swear* I had some...I'm gonna order another 0 kit, just to see. Worst case, I don't have any spares right now at all...so a set on the shelf is a good thing |

OK. I'll hit up PM today then and let everyone know what I find out. I didn't want to move in that direction without checking with you first if you were ordering them... |

Joe, I just checked through my parts box and I still have the bags the pistons you sent me came it (I put the old ones in them just in case I needed the part number) There are three bags (each with two pistons of the same size.) Part Number / Size 0053-1401 / 1.375 x 750 0052-1401 / 1.250 x 750 0051-1401 / 1.125 x 625 These do not look to be HD/Buell parts buy the bag. Could you have purchased them from some place else? Have you ordered the AH set yet? Frank (Message edited by f_skinner on March 26, 2009) |

Haven't ordered anything - it'll get ordered 2moro, 2day is my "sunday" Now I'm trying to figure out where the hell I got those from. They're not HD part numbers, I checked on H-Dnet just now. Al has a pic of the H0020.0 on his site, it's just seals. I'm wondering if the three PNs you have were in a larger container from HD, repackaged from PM? I'll do some more digging under my past invoices, too. I don't think I got 'em from Al since he doesn't list them on his site...<shrug> I'm so confused now. Need more coffee...lol |

Just had part of a thought, I'll doublecheck tomorrow. I may have gotten them through Drag Specialties, it looks like their "vendor-part" sequencing for the "xxxx-xxxx" part number. |

Those are the part numbers that PM confirmed as correct. Except that I have that last one listed as 1.125" x .750". |

Hey guy's, Just a quick update: The pistons are still available through Performance Machine. The part numbers listed are accurate. It took me about three weeks to get them (they were out of the one size supposedly). They wouldn't ship them to any address where there wasn't someone there to sign for them. So I ordered them through the dealership. With the new seals from American Sport Bike and the new pistons, everything went together pretty well. Got it all together last night with the new wave rotor. This morning was the first test run with it to work, and it did well. I don't know if it was the caliper, or the rotor (or a combination of both, likely), but it takes way less braking effort to stop her now. |

I realize this is an old post, but I wanted to update that I just placed an order with PM and they still stock all three of the pistons for our calipers, and those part numbers are valid. |
