I just bought an 03 blast about 4 weeks ago. I've been riding it around since i had it with no problems whatsoever. Yesterday, i took it out for a ride but forgot something at home, parked it in my garage, turned it off, but left the keys in the ignition. i came back 2 minutes later, and it simply would not fire up. i saw a puddle on the floor under the bike and it smelled like gas. I finally looked at it closer today and found out where the leak is coming from. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y31/mister68/-Dev iceMemory-home-user-pictures-IM.jpg If you look closely, you'll see the two small holes near the bottom. When i turn the gas on, it leaks from there, dumping gas all over the bike. any ideas? |

Yup, the floats are sticking. Try tapping the side of the floatbowl lightly with a screwdriver handle, if that doesn't work you r gonna have to remove the float bowl and see y its sticking. |

Float is located in the bottom of the carb. You can remove the floatbowl with the carb on the bike, it's just 4 phillips head screws. when you have the bowl off push the float up until it stops and turn the gas back on. If the gas still flows u will need to remove the carb and look further, but if it does stop the floats might need to be adjusted |

First try just tapping the carb, it may be just temporarily stuck. EZ |

i got to the carb. after removing two of the screws to get to the float bowl, two of them wont budge, and one of them stripped. i don't know what i'm going to do now. i tried tapping on it a few more times but that just isn't doing the trick. |

Take your dremel and turn the screws into the flat heads, when you get them out, replace with Allen heads. EZ |

Grab the screws with a good set of vice grips. Replace with hardware store variety allen heads. |

That's a really good idea to switch them to allen heads. The stock screws are kind of soft and you have to have the *exact* size philips head screwdriver to take them out, or else you strip them. Even then, you can still strip them! |

Agree on replacing the stock bolts with Allens, but don't torque them down too tight or you'll strip the threads out of carb body--that's a bad thing. I recommend a little anti-seize on 'em, too. rt |

good news: i fixed it! I had a friend look at it who was coming over to pick up my brother's bike for repair, and he said that you should drain the gas first, then try tapping the float. So, i did that, and sure enough, the leak stopped and it's back in working order. I think i may take it to my harley store and have them look at it though. i certainly don't want it happening again. thanks for all the help guys! |

Run some fuel treatment stuff through it. You might have had a little old fuel residue making the float stick. |
