So, if finally happened to me last night, I dropped my bike while sitting still . Damned embarrassing moment let me tell ya! I had just arrived at a friends house, and he was standing outside waiting for me. As I came to a stop, and put my feet down, it felt kinda odd, like I was leaning to the right some. So I started to lean the bike to the left, and before I could realize that the odd feeling was only caused by the slant of his concrete driveway, it was already too late. Even with letting it down fairly easy into his garbage cans, the left side peg snapped in-half. my question to you guys is, has anybody tried using JBweld to fix a broken peg? Think it would hold up for a long time? I have the S model pegs on my Firebolt. I have been looking to get some stock pegs put on it, but don't want to loose those S pegs entirely for longer rides. |

NO!! Don't do it! There's way too much risk involved with that and I honestly doubt JB Weld would hold up. The pegs are cheap to replace, order new ones for an S or an R, whichever you like best. I think maybe 15 for a peg? |

Don't even try it. The bond strength of JB weld to aluminum is on the order of 2000 psi, the tensile strength of the aluminum casting is on the order of 40,000 psi. In other words, you'd end up with 1/20th of the original strength. Footpegs are cheap. Falling aint. |

You might check your passenger peg to see if it might fit. Been 5 years since I've even looked at the passenger pegs (they're in a box around here somewhere) - but I THINK they might mount up, they might not fold up well but they'll at least get you on the road until your replacement arrives. Don't quote me but you might check it out to see if it'll work for now. |

If you use the JB and nothing happens, you save, oh what, $25-30? If you use it and it fails, let us say, in high speed traffic, it could slice through your boots ($?), and/or your leg (ouch and $?). You would probably be surprised and lose control for a moment. You might even go down (more ouch and more $?). You might be real lucky and not hit anything (major ouch and major $?). JB is a glue, not a fusion (weld) process. It will break. Do the math and cheap out by buying a new peg. |

No JBweld then . I'm gonna go out and try the passenger pegs idea. I don't ever have them attached anyways, so would be great to use for now. Trying to decide if I want to go an extra $40 and get the LSLs from American Sport Bike... Edit: And we have success! Passenger pegs are a go. Feels strange not having the S pegs on. The passenger pegs will work, trust me You loose the spring back affect, but it will still fold up if you lean the bike over that far. Cheap fix until you replace them. Edit: I guess I should have read the rest of the posts! (Message edited by htekwo on March 22, 2009) |

Heh, yea, passenger pegs work good. Dealership had the left hand side in stock, so went ahead and snagged it. The stock peg position is so much better for me with my style of riding . |

FYI, if you upgrade the pegs, they don't snap in half so easily. I've got the Crossroads competition pegs (super-spikey solid aluminum blocks!), and they hold up exceptionally well in a drop. ~SM |

Although I am a huge fan of using JB Weld. I would never use it where safety is an issue. Buy a new peg! |

"Mighty Putty" sounds like my buddy's description of his infant son "discovering" his own poop - and then also discovering what a wonderful TOY it was when properly used!!! |
