Side Note: I worked in the printing industry making printing plates (all kinds). When assembling some of the plates, I used "3M Tape Primer". It is in an aerosol can that is held upside down while spraying it on. You spray this on 2 flat surfaces, as soon as they touch they are not coming apart. If I was using it on rubber, I'd wipe the rubber with TriMethelEthelKeytone. That stuff will wash the ink off of a dollar bill. I had a hole in my Jeep. Yep used the 3M on both the Jeep and a piece of sheet metal. It stayed there. Warning: The keytone will wash off rattle can paint like it was just dirt. |

(I sent this to Court but thought others might be interested) Unfortunately I put the pucks on. I searched badweb for instructions on how to put the pucks on and didn't find any so I thought, "well, it doesn't come with instructions and no one is asking about it on badweb so it must just work like a sticker." I put them on and neither of them stuck very well (I know I should have done one at a time). The dealer did order me a right puck and a left puck, not the kit, I'm assuming. I'm not so sure he knew what he was supposed to order. |

You've uncovered a bit of a glitch in the parts system.... It MAY have been intentional. Consider frame puck kits are sold with primer for obvious, initial installation purposes. Individual replacement pucks are not sold with primer because the frame has already been primed, and a second application of primer may deteriorate the frame coatings. So only cleaning of the previously primed area is necessary.

>>>I'm not so sure he knew what he was supposed to order. Being fixed. Not entirely the dealers fault. Buell can do a better job of communicating. The difference in the three (L, R and both) kits and installation instructions can be made more user friendly. It'll be changed quickly. Someone will contact your dealer soon and you'll be fixed up prontoliciously. Oops. Thanks for the "heads up". How come stuff like this never happened when Dave Gess was in charge of parts with a $784 budget?

" Do you guys think I should just install as these directions say or is there no doubt that I need the primer? " While you may get fairly good adhesion, it may not be enough for the puck to serve it's primary purpose. (crash damage prevention) I remember that the primer(s) in the kit I installed this winter listed the active ingredients. Maybe someone w/ access to a kit could tell you what that is. You could probably get that chemical at an auto-parts store or paint supply company. |

So I'm just shit out of luck as well? I mean I ordered a kit as I stated above. I even listed the part numbers and I have no primer. |

Did you order the KIT that includes BOTH pucks? Or . . . Did you order a LEFT puck and a RIGHT puck? I know you put the number above but I (yes, I have a "day" job) am at work and don't have access to the information. If you bought two separate kits there would be no primer in them and you could use the auto primer. If you bought ONE KIT WITH TWO PUCKS there SHOULD HAVE been primer and adhesive. If you want to scan the receipt or send the number I'll see if I can help. Odd that there have been 576 & 460 individual pucks sold and this has never come up. Easy fix. |

I understand you have a day job, im not demanding your help or anything. I am just trying to figure out what my options are here as how to fix this problem. I bought the kit with two pucks. There were two pucks in one package with the instructions that said kit. In the parts list, it said left and right pucks, but no primer was listed. Court, are you saying you want me to just email you the kit and part numbers? I bought the kit on ebay from a texas HD-Buell dealership so I dont really have a receipt number. |

No. I just need the part number on the box. That way I can do some checking on what SHOULD be in the kit. Your recourse, unfortunately, will (and this is a little weird as dealers are not supposed to be selling on e-Bay) be going back to the dealer. It **sounds** (pure guess at this point) that if you actually bought the 2 puck KIT that someone purloined the primer/adhesive. I didn't think you were demanding, I just didn't have the info with me. Send me the part number on the box if you get a chance. |

I got a box with two pucks in it and no primer last year at HD/Danbury. No big deal. I used brake cleaner, isopropyl, and made sure the area was good and warm when I stuck the aforementioned pucks to the frame. No problems so far. The brake cleaner may have etched the finish a little but I don't give a rat's ass. It's covered by a puck. |

Glad to hear that. I may just have to go ahead and stick them on when its warm out. |

Make sure you apply even steady pressure on each one after you stick it. I pressed pretty hard on them for like 5 min. a piece. |

Oxygen151, You have one of the original puck kits that DID NOT have the primer. Note the part number on the instructions for the kit, above: 93001-03YA Your kit is part number: 93001-03Y I used the same kit as you have on my '05 Firebolt and it stuck just fine. I just washed the frame with Dawn and clean water, then swabbed it with alcohol, waited for it to dry completely and applied the pucks. Like Johnnyluchbox, I pressed them on for several minutes (and it was warm out). Of course you could see if Court/Buell Customer Service could get the primer for you seperately. Unfortunately, the part number for the primer on the instruction sheet above seems to be a "bad" part number, according to H-DNet. HellBuelly J |

The primer/adhesive is not sold seperately. I'm going to do some checking and see if I can get either a sample or a source. The good news is that the pucks, when properly installed, are there pretty much permanently . . . . don't ask how I know . . . cough. . . cough . . . pitching puck test bikes out of the back of a pickup truck at warp speed.. some pictures just HAVE to die.

I installed mine, making sure the area was clean. I used alcohol. No problems in 5 years. |

During the many years I used alcohol . . . . there were never any problems either. . . . "cause and effect" . . . who knows ? ? , but it always seems to work. Thanks for the tip! |

I used alcohol too, but for the pucks I went with brake cleaner and isopropyl. ***rimshot*** |
