Some 'difficult' reading there Rob. I ‘think’ this will read a little easier for everyone else: When the bike is lifted on a stand with the forks fully extended, there is a ‘clunk/thump’. It’s a May (’08 or ’09?) build date. Buell told me there were no recalls, but that some bikes have this & some don’t, which may be attributed to the spring change in August. I posted this to see if anyone has any more information before I disassemble the forks. I may also talk with Race Tech. Any thoughts, ideas or info would be much appreciated. Rob Can you confirm if it's an '08? I remember reading about this before on here, so hopefully someone will chime in with some info. |

I was getting the "clunk" too. Changed brake rotor/pads at dealership (for free) clunk is gone... |

I have the "clunk" also. It is evident without touching the brakes though. All that is required is to work the front up and down by applying vertical pressure to the bars rigorously. Had the dealer check it on two different occasions (in accordance with the service manual) since I don't have a spring scale to measure resistance. Everything is well within specification, so I have no idea where the noise is coming from. |

Ditto here, seems to be getting more pronounced. I'm not real big on wheelies - altitude issues. I plan on having Service take a look at a couple of little issues, this is one of them. Z |

I`m starting to wonder if my clunk isn`t the steering head bearing after all?? |

I had a clunk right after changing the front tire the lastime. Backed off the axle about 1 turn, bounced the front end vigorously a few times and retorqued the front axle. No more clunk. As Dalton_gang suggested also check the steering head bearings. |

Mine was evident w/o the brakes squeezed too. Maybe when they changed the brake rotor/pads and put the wheel on they fixed the clunk while reinstalling the wheel? Yay for me getting new brakes out of it. Nick |

I have the same problem, already had the steering head bearing adjusted, still had it so have been replaced, still there. Buell says it is something with the forks. Dealer has it now for investigation. Mine makes the noise right at the top of the fork. Can also make it louder when on side stand, turn all the way to the lock and move front end up and down. |

Build Dec07, Bought Apr08, 7700 Miles. Noise started at maybe 800-1000 miles, around late May08 timeframe. |

I already went through this with my dealer and Buell. The noise is considered normal by Buell. The upper bushing in the upper tube is a split bushing design. It is compressed to install down into the tube and goes into a machined pocket in the tube. This bushing is a little loose because of the design and will cause the clunk, click noise as it and the tube have a little clearance. |

That sounds very plausible Mike. I will re-torque my front-end, but really "sounds" like a non-issue. I think I'll poke a stethoscope at the fork tubes and see if I can verify on mine. Really not interested in a stay at the Shop for exploratory surgery. Z |

My fiasco was almost 2 months at the dealer for the noise and some other stuff. You will be able to hear the noise loudest between the triple tree with the scope. This is were the upper bushing is. When mine were all apart I looked them over very well and that is where I found the noise coming from and Buell just confirmed it for me. I thought mine was unusually loud and I even sent Buell a video clip of the noise and it was still deemed normal even though it was the loudest one they had experienced. |

Well, I am glad that the noise is normal, because mine has been doing it for as long as I can remember. Mike |

Ya, the Dealer also told me it was normal when I was getting other work done. Mine seemed loudest on the side stand when worked up and down. I found that hard to believe. But clunk does sound like it could be made of nylon. Thanks for clearing it up. |

Any updates to the front-end "clunk" problem??? Any further knowledge gained on this since the last post in this thread (March '09)? My 1125R seems to have this problem - bike made July 2008 - the bike is a 2009 model. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/555552.html Thanks. |

Also, can someone please list the HD warranty service claims/issues phone number? It would be appreciated. |
