Ok so I am in the process of doing a mod to lift the tail on my XBR I have lifted the tail.In the pictures its not done yet I have something to fill the gap which I photoshopped for now.I am also in the process of modding my seat so I can make it fit after the lift.I am just interested in opinions and I am also considering getting rid of my plastics and getting stock ones since I will need to modify those also which I will then paint. Is there anybody interested in doing a plastics swap with me for theres???Again I am considering this but am VERY seriously considering it.Let me know if your interested and we can talk my paint is PPG white and PPG frost blue pearl. http://s238.photobucket.com/albums/ff309/fastxb12r /my%20buell%20firebolt%20xb12r/ AFTER BEFORE

are you trying to show helicopters when you are going to stop? I also imagine your crown jewels not liking this project all that much. |

it's all a matter of opinion- not my cup-o-tea either, but props to you for making your vision for your bike happen. I have not seen a firebolt with a lifted tail, only lightnings- you may actually be the first! |

Kind of a "just got rear ended" look Visually awkward, but that can be gotten over. If it makes riding awkward then it's not the best idea. (Message edited by oddball on March 19, 2009) |

If you would leave the tag bracket on there you wouldn't have to contort the frame so the police can read it(haha).I agree with the fellow who says props to you for making it your own.Good job. |

Thanks everybody for giving your honest opinions I can always count a badwebbers to hear the truth. I went and bought some more aluminum to make a smaller lift and am currently tigging the pieces together.Ill post pics when its done later tonight. It will be about 50-75% of how high it is now as I test rode it and the bits and pieces where not likeing it if you know what I mean.It was'nt as bad as you would think once I heated my seat and bent it to comform. It would however be annoying on a looooong ride. Also my bike stays in the living room only because I have so many projects going on in the garage.PLUS my bike like to sleep indoors where it stays a pleasant 75 degrees. The best part is that is real bamboo wood flooring not the fake stuff the wife loves it. |

No reason to explain the living room. Doesn't everybody do that? Tried to post this earlier, but it didn't go right... Did somebody say "Alll Jacked Up"? Made me think of this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlD1KgfHGXs&feature =channel_page Make sure you look at about 1:50 into it. (Message edited by dentguy on March 19, 2009) |

sry I mean the solid kind of wood flooring not the floating laminate. But yes its real bamboo and it was a pain to install next time ill spend the money and have someone else do it. I got pics coming up in a couple minutes.I just need to reheat the seat and form it to fit but you will see. |

I think a little lower will look better. I assume your wife doesn't ride on the back though. Good luck. Did you bend the subframe or is it a new subframe that you built? If you bent the original subframe, how did you do it? I need to straighten mine a little. The PO bent it slightly. |

OK so here are the pictures of the final lift I just need to mod the seat and install my filler and it will be done. Nillaice Thanks you know you are the first one to ever notice that mod.I never told nobody about it because I didnt think they would be interested.I tend to do things that are different I.E.=stuff I like nobody else usually likes. I more than likely will be repainting my plastics satin black along with the rest of the bike including the frame.I guess I just never did like the white its to bright for me.

hey Fast, how do you like those 1125R mirrors, and are they hard to install or pretty simple? Been thinking about putting some on my 12R but wanted to see someone that did it first to see how it looks. Looks good from what I see, a little bit bigger of a mirror, does it give more viewing area? |

Hey fast, i recently installed a custom breather reroute system and have a similar air filter located right about where yours is; do you get exhaust vapors seeping out of the filter? I do, and it smells like normal exhaust X100!!! My girlfriend hates it and say's i'm gonna be full-retard in a year from breathing it! |

Juniorkirk, I love the 1125 mirrors they do have a slightly larger viewing area. The reason my mirrors look big in the pic is cause theyre folded in.They mount up fairly easy you do need to drill a hole in the middle of the 2 mounting holes in the fairing for the wires to run.BUT you will not see the hole and you can go back to stockers without the holes showing iether.I have some pics in my photobucket of the nut and bolt I installed in place of the 1125 rivet they put them together with at the mounting base because they vibrated/moved to much so I replaced them with the bolts in the pics. You just drill the head off the rivet it comes right out and replace it with the proper fitting bolt. Krueger08xb12s, I dont have any vapors or leakage coming out of my reroute filter that I have ever noticed and I have been sitting still with little to no wind so I should of smelled it if it was. Macdiver, I didnt build a new subframe I tig welded a bracket out of aluminum that bolts to the existing frame. If you need to align your subframe you should remember to measure the "X" meaning left rear to right front and vise-versa.AND THEN measure the length only after you have the X aligned. You need a tram gauge or measuring tape, a level and muscle or some way to get leverage without damaging something else.I would say you could heat it but that will cause the metal to anneal which will bend very easy after that which is not good.If you have more questions just shoot me a PM. |

Xlr8n_xb I would of loved to trade you like yesterday but after working on it today I chipped the paint on a couple of the edges very minor on the under tail.So I would doubt you would want them now mind you its only visible if you actually get down there and look under the tail hard but.I wouldnt feel right trading someone something that now has a fault.I could send you pics if you are still interested. Also I opened up the airbox by the gas filler which is pictured in my photobucket. |
