It's really like being forces to choose "just one Bond girl". I probably have one more Sportster purchase in my . . . I monitor Madduck so I'll know which one. I probably have one more big twin purchase in me. It'll likely be an FLHTCUI so I can claim I'm slower than Ferris on a Road King due to weight. But . . . if I had to have one, was going to commute and wanted a girl I could take to the prom and the football game, it'd be the XT. | ||

I have a Nightster, so I say get the Sporty. There's something about a Sporty, and I don't even like HDs in general. I had a choice between getting another XB, an 1125R or a Nightster - and I don't regret my decision. However, I do hope to acquire another Buell in the future. | ||

I'm the same size as you are. I have the xt and superglide. I ride the xt way more and it is, for me a better all around bike. Fun, fast, comfortable. For me and the passenger. It had great bags. they are both great bikes and both fun. I like my HD, but if i had to have on;y one, it would be my XT | ||

I have this imaginary scale. It's called DD's versatility triangle. At one point is St. Troy Bayliss' Bike. One has Ben Townley's Bike and the third has a Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic. Every bike has a footprint somewhere on that triangle. The XB12X has one of the largest. | ||

I called my HD/Buell dealership and told to the guy that sold me my Blast. I asked him to get me an "out the door" price on an XT. He said that he didn't know if they were even scheduled to get an XT in for the rest of the year. I was surprised when I talked to Ken. Fletchers has cut all the sales staff hours. Every one is working 2 day weeks right nwo. They must not be selling anything. We'll see what happens with the XT price. By the way, in this market what would be a good drive away price for a new XT? I called the folks I want to buy a car from, they didn't have the color I wanted and were immediately busting their ass to find it. I think you need to take a serious look at this . . you are working to hard to spend your money. Your dealership can get a Buell XT anytime they want. If they have a problem, have them call me. | ||

Court, I think times are so tough at the dealership that it's altering how they do business. Sales guys are all working 2 days weeks right now. Would not surprise me that they'ver being told to sale what's in house rather than ordering from the mother ship. I just found a blue 2009 within driving distance. Has just over 2k miles on it. Its never been down but is kind of scratched up from the PO. They are asking $12,990 but he said they are "very flexible". I've got an appointment tomorrow night for a test ride. I'll need to leave work a little early to get there in time but what better excuse is there to leave early? What would be a good offer on something like this? I'm thinking in the neighborhood of $11,000. | ||

I did a quick national search of Craig's List and saw a '08 XT with 2,362 miles in Duluth, MN for $9,995, so you might want to start at less than $11K. In my experience, if you love the bike after the test, the price will magically seem less important! | ||

I have a TT & couldn't imagine buying any sportster, with the possible exception of a XR1200. If you can wait for one it may be the best of both for you. | ||

I'll have a more informed opinion after tomorrow night. Got a firm commitment from the dealer that I can ride tomorrow, just bring jeans, helmet and boots. I'll have them in the back pack waiting for 5:00. I hope they let me out of the parking lot.... | ||

No matter, I won't be able to buy anything for about 3 weeks any way. Divorce is making me do a refi on the house. Have to wait for that to happen before I can buy anything. Being poor really sucks some times...lol. I pretty much know what to expect getting on a Sportster but what should I expect when I get on the XT? I know it'll have more power than I'm used to but what else should I expect/watch out for? | ||

Zane, it will be everything you loved about your Blast...only more powerful, better handling, better brakes....and taller ...oh and more engine heat...but not bad. what should I expect when I get on the XT? The first thing I learned when I moved from my Blast to another bike, was that it is awfully easy to hold a Blast up if you get it leaned over a little ways. The XT is a tall bike. You will notice that when moving it around a parking lot, particularly backing up. If it gets off center and you're not moving, it's very difficult to hold up. If that happens, and you can't keep it from going over, just hit the kill switch and lay her down gently. | ||

Sounds like good advise Jinance. I'll pay attention to keeping it on center. Heck, with a Blast if it gets off center you can just throw it over your shoulder and walk off. Court, I can't make any promises. After I discovered motorcycles, I've been in a hurry ever since. I miss my Blast and some day soon I'll have another one. Zane: My opinion is as follows. If you want to look good but don't care as much about the dynamics of the ride itself; buy the Sportster. If you don't care about the looks but want to really ride the bike; buy the Ulysses. I ride a Ulysses almost daily and my wife has a Sportster that she lets me ride occasionaly. The Sportster is underpowered, undersuspended, underbraked and scrapes parts when I go around corners. It is much better looking and it's stock exhaust sounds much better than the Buell but the Buell is superior in all other measures. Dave P.S. I know you have heard this already but you really should buy whichever bike you want; not what we tell you. | ||

Zane, you mentioned that you think the XT is harder to ride. I think that once you get over being intimidated by being up a little higher you will appreciate the view from 'up' there, and find that the Uly is actually easier to ride. You also mention what you ride your bike for, the commuting thing. If you want that to be,and stay a fact, get the Sporty. The Uly will change all of that thinking and ruin you for life! The next thing you know you will be making that little trip to the keys on your Uly just because. Then some a-hole will call you four days before an event that is 700 miles out, and of course you will find yourself saying "sure, Ill go!" So, IMHO if you want life to stay the same get the Sporty, if you want permagrin that will carry you into new realms of what life can be, get the Uly.  By the way, have you ever heard a non Buell rider complaining of the face cramps you get from permagrin?!??  | ||

Etennuly, I know instinctively what you say is true. I bought the Blast thinking I'd ride it to work once in a while but would use it mostly recreation. By the time I totaled it 9 months later, it was my main mode of transportation. Have you ever tried to carry two 1.5 litter bottles of wine and a loaf of bread without bags or backpack? My unconscious first reaction when going some where was to hop on the bike. I can't image it will get any better with an XT. | ||

Oh you will be so screwed! I am still sick with the Uly leading me around after three years, and a City-X for a year and a half before that! My wife has been asking when will this wear off? I'm just lucky I have to use my bike for work too! Dammit, I gotta go. I have a truck to deliver and one to pick up in another location thirty miles away. My Uly is loaded in the back and I will have to ride that thirty miles and load it into the back of another truck. Danger Dave has a better gig though.....he gets to ride both ways!  | ||

Zane- here's another idea. I know for a fact that Smoky Mountain in Maryville TN has a <new> stock 07 XB12STT, which has been discontinued by Buell. That said, it just happens to have the "2nd generation" XB rolling chassis- essentially it IS a stripped down Uly XT! You could always add the bracketry for bags later, and pick about any Hepco-Becker setup you like. Budgets being tite, you can STEAL that bike if you want! Just something to think about. Grow your own Uly XT for cheep $$$. (Disclaimer: I no longer work for Smoky Mountain H-D/BUELL, therefore I have no $$$ interest in making the above post. These folks are all good peeples, they will take good care of you if you choose to do bidness with them.) | ||

86129, The STT is just a bit tall for me. I'm 5 foot 10 with a 30 inch inseam on a good day. With boots, I'm comfortable with the 30.7 inches of the XT but that extra inch starting to make thing dicey. I should have been like my son. He's almost 6 foot 2 and has legs so long he can straddle a dumpster. | ||

The XT and STT are the same frame and suspension height, the only difference is the seat, put the Touring sport seat on the Stt and all is good . |
