I'm considering a 1250cc (with headwork and cams) for my 2002 X1W but where I live the dynos are few and far in between, and operators who know how to use an EFI program like ECM Spy even more scarce. I was wondering if there is a place where I could purchase a base map for my setup and modify it with some datalogging? My setup includes a Force Race (big bore) exhaust and a ForceWinder intake. For the money I would not do a 1250 kit unless you were in a big hurry to get it back together. Cycle-rama bored my cylinders out to 1223 for a lot less money than a 1250 kit and you get most of your power from the head work anyway. They have dyno's of similar builds with 120 rwhp. |

I believe I've read about a similar dilema on here before. lets see if I can remember enough info to pass it along. "the Race ECM maps are decent enough to run a bike with a 1250 and LIGHT head work and slightly bigger than stock cams, like the SE 'E' grind, SE536s, one of the andrews cams (N6 maybe?), etc. But to really get the best of what you got... you need a lil dyno time." Don't quote me on that but the discussion was along those lines. I think with an extra 50cc, light porting and the usual bolt-ons, you shouldn't run too lean... atleast not any leaner than the factory ECM! hopefully someone with some REAL expirience in this particular situation will chime in. good luck! |

I have the race kit on my S3 but it is stock bore with just head work( runs great by the way) My M2 has the real work done heads, cams, Mikuni Carb, and on and on. No fuel injection woes on it.. As Texas Tech says dyno time will most likely be required to get significant gains with F.I. |

can the stock throttle body even handle 88? I would doubt it. I contacted Zippers a few years ago about the 88 kit for the Buell and they said they go with carb. |

Stock throttle body can be bored and bigger throttle plate installed. How much money do you want to spend? |

Zippers were talking about around 5k, that's a few years ago. 5K is a little too much, I leaning more toward just boring the stock cylinders a bit now. |

The biggest hurdle will be your exhaust. Force pipe is harder to tune. We have done a 90" X-1 successfully.Kept cams mild and no bigger TB needed. And we just did a 90" Uly and he wanted bigger TB so we had BC Gerollamy do it. It is making 123 HP not yet broken in all the way. With the 1250 kit you are getting away from the stock cast cylinders and getting better pistons as well. Something to consider over boring the stockers,especially as you get up in overbore sizes.You might want to look at the podcast from Rev-Perf about OEM vs big bores. 1250 kit is a drop in -- 88/90 inchers are a complete teardown as you need to bore the cases. |

these 1250 kits always seemed like a waste to me.....50cc for real thats it.....why...just hog it out and make real power, or keep it stock. it seems like it would be putting a cam in a car with like .10 higher lift....for what lol you can drop an 88 kit on all stock components other than the jugs and pistons you buy, bore the cases and put it back together........ i think the main point to this whole game that im also tryin to play is...unless you upgrade everything.....power will only slightly increase..so im waitng until i can buy porting, cams and jugs ive hinted on it a few times but im not sure if they are watching these forums, jts is a new sponsore and i was hinted from millenium that he can make X1 maps! i'd rather throw on some ported heads, bigger cams and a bored throttle body, keeping the stock 1203cc... but thats just me. |

Limited, I think you need one more 0 between the decimal point and the 1. .10 is a tenth of an inch and in a race car motor that would be the difference between a healthy flat tappet and a high lift roller camshaft. |

(stock .497 ---> SE .536) ..and I'll be more than happy to give a review of the 1250 kit once I get all of Betty's parts back and get her on the road. I hit the rebore/new pistons vs. a 1250 kit conundrum recently. The 1250 kit won out. |

A 1223 is getting the bore very thin on stock castings. Firemanjim is right about that one. A 1250 kit will give a 5% increase in power and is one of the best investments you can make for "best bang for the buck". With aluminum cyl. you lose a lot of weight and the kit comes with high end pistons. I really like the RP 1250 kits. I'm now tuning my X1 (stage 3 heads, 585 cams, roller topend). RUNS AWESOME! I'm about to put my S3 back together and I'm doing a slightly milder build (536 cams, stage 3 heads, stock rockers, NRHS shortened pushrods, V-thunder lifters). X1 should be in the 115-120 RWHP range and the S3 should be in the 103-107 range. Both good builds. You won't regret going with the 1250 kit. BTW, I'm tuning with ECMSPY and data logging. Works great. I can help with the tune when the time comes. Ride safe. |

im not completely knocking the 1250 kits, and i was tryin to make a joke with the .1, ya i meant .010 lift. just seems like a lot of money to spend on a "big bore" kit to go to 1250, when a stock rebuild can be had for much less.....1250 kits cost almost as much as some 88 kits now....i guess its all in what the owner wants. when i spend money on motors, i look at dollar vs hp....but thats just me |
