For those who care and or interested. I just dropped off my 08 at Hal's today for the clutch cable retainer recall (including burnt clutch cable boot), and for them to address my low 30's mpg along with the stumble off idle. At the latest date, I should get it back this Friday, and then will post the results. I know a lot of you 08 owners have tried to address these issues with your dealer, but I haven't seen Hal's in there. I'm not very optimistic that they can fix these problems since all of you others have had no luck. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. The stumble or the mpg really don't bother me that much, but just thought I'd have them look into it. Though the stumble does get annoying; I find myself blipping the throttle to prevent it. My 08 was reflashed at its initial service last July/August. The stumbling was less, it ran better, but mpg was still 40-43mpg. | ||

Adam, I'd have A LOT more confidence on things getting better. Dan Bilansky, Hals head "Buell Guy", is probably one of, if not THE best Buell mechanic in the business. hey boney,i noticed in your profile(and pic.) you have a drummer & a k-n filter, a little off subject & probably beatin' a dead horse, but what did you have done as far as re-setting,re-mapping or re-flashing anything. i have a n'08 xb9sx w/ buell race pipe and my headers look crappy compared to yours, color is a little more than half way down to the muffler. thanks & keep us posted on your mpg & stumbling probs. | ||

Steve, thanks for the reassuring statement about Dan and Hal's Buell Techs. I've heard nothing but good things regarding them. I guess my less than stealer optimism came from the service guy. He was new (he stated); when asked about the 08 reflash, he had no clue what a reflash was, granted he was not going to work on my bike. I'm not ripping on him by any means, I'm sure he's just learning the ropes. It's good to know that I've got the Best Techs in my backyard, how lucky I am! | ||

Joel9, I haven't done anything as far as tuning the bike, including the reflash. I don't know what to tell you regarding your headers turning blue/purple more than half way to the pipe. I know it's normal for these headers to do so, but don't know the extent on which is normal. I did have a service guy (not a tech) tell me that since the blueing didn't run past the second bend of the of the front header, I wasen't running lean. Take that for what it's worth. Currently I have aprox 35 hundred on the clock. Out of that I've only ran with the K&N for about 2k (Drummer for about 3k). Don't know if that makes a difference? | ||

thats what the tech at my dealer says too, bluing is ok, normal & a little backfiring on decel w/other than stock pipe is ok. thanks and sorry about swervin' off your thread | ||

Yeah, I have a drummer and my pipes are bluing a little bit. Honestly I think everybody is making too big a deal over that. I love the way my bike sounds and I think it runs great. every once in a while I get a stumble from a dead stop, but I think since its and 08 and it has the self tuning fuel and ignition setup that that is what causes it. I spoke to Kevin at kdfab who makes drummer and he said that there is no need to mess with your ecm on this setup. | ||

Got the bike back about a week ago and here's the deal. I still have the stumble off idle and I'll have to see if the mpg issue was fixed. Just filled her up (it's been rather chilly here in WI lately). And its supposed to snow tomorrow 4-8"! BS!!! But the only thing the did was the reflash. So I'm guessing there is no fix to this problem, unless somebody comes out with a working tuner. Its all good in my book, I still have a bad azz bike! But I did notice, maybe its just me, but the bike has more power now. Just the other day I was out and I let her rip. I was at about 35 hundred rpm and crack the throttle wide open and she pulled me straight back in the seat and continued to do so until I got off the throttle at about 6.5k. And when I say threw me back I mean that, my damn arms went completely extended, making my right hand lock on the throttle as if I couldn't let go or release/let off the throttle. She just completely threw me back like I was on a rocket that hit its afterburners. Prior to the reflash I never experienced this kind of pull on the bike. So I got something out of it. Like I said before the stumble of idle does not really bother me, I can work around that, and as with the sh!ty mpg, I don't really care, that isn't the reason why I bought the bike. We'll see if the mpg gets better, if not maybe I'll take it back? Its just a pain in the azz for me to bring it in and drop it off, then pick it up (I don't have a trailer yet). Plus I hate having my bike out of my hands. We'll see. All is GOOD! |
