I was removing the intake cover to check the air filter and the right front tab snapped as I lifted it. Has anyone had one of these tabs fail? If your bike was still under warranty how difficult was it to get replaced?

Warranty should cover that. I only took mine off once, and that was to put on the open airbox kit. |

Shouldn't be a problem. Have your dealer order it as a warranty item. Who is your dealer? |

My dealer refuses to order warranty parts without a diagnostic, which in normal people speak means leave your bike with us for a week or so and we will get around to looking at it when we feel like it. I had a the front brake light switch failed. A $15 part as I remember. They would not order it with out a diagnostic. So I got out my multi meter, set up the demonstration in the parking lot and then walked back in to get the service manager to see I already did it. All I want and needed was the friken switch. He refused said his guys had to do it. The Warranty on your bike is only as good as your dealer. Mine wasn't worth the paper it was written on. |

Just wondering, what was the ambient temperature when that broke? Failing a warranty replacement; that looks like a good application for a zip tie. |

I was expecting to read single digit temp. At 65~70F. they should warranty it. |

I have had several of these break. As others have mentioned, it is zip tie fixable. I went a step further . . .being too cheap to keep replacing zip ties every time I take of the airbox cover . . .I bolted small plastic cable holders (phone wire size) to the airbox and put the zip ties through them. The ties now slide on and off the hooks on the airbox base with no apparent indication of weakness, looseness or imminent failure. YMMV . . . |

Thanks Court for the part number. I was going to bring the picture to the dealership, but was afraid they would insist I bring in the bike so they could look at it before they would order the part. It'll be mid April before I dare to ride it there, too much road sand, marbles and patches of black ice at the moment. Tomorrow will be around 0 to 10°F. >>>It'll be mid April before I dare to ride it there, too much road sand, marbles and patches of black ice at the moment. No problem. I predict you'll hear from your dealer later in the week when the part arrives. It's set to ship tomorrow. Ride safe and have fun. . . |

Prevent broken tabs, press down (fairly) hard on the airbox lid when engaging or disengaging the tabs. With the gasket compressed, the tabs don't need to 'snap'. Mark in Arizona |

What Mark said. We sell a fair amount of the '07 covers. And we have about a 10% DOA rate on them. That is, 1 in 10 has one of those tabs broken off INSIDE the box, on a box with NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE. The box they use isn't the optimal size, and I suspect it is broken when the part is pushed into the box. It doesn't take much over-excursion on the tab to break it off. Al |
