Hey, I may have the cheapest power modification for stock Buells. On the computer (ecm) there is a white wire, if you cut that wire, you are eliminating a programmed flat spot around 3000 RPM. Which is about where most people with V-Twins ride. Do this work on carbed models too? Does it work at all? Also, from what I have learned, the stock module pulls the timing way back between about 3k and 4k for Buells to pass EPA drive by tests. So do I clip the wire or go get a Screaming eagle ignition module? Thanks Mike |

What models are you talking about? |

Make sure you know what the wire is for before cuting, this is the first time I have ever read about this one. I would like to see a dyno run with the cut and without it before I would believe. |

The magic white wire clip trick. Seems to appear with great frequency, be it cars or bikes or boats or computers or radio gear, there always seems to be a magic white wire to clip. I've read of this a little here and elsewhere about some European bikes with an exposed magic wire. I've always wondered what the wire goes to that makes clipping it so magical. I think I'd be getting out a wiring diagram if you can find one in enough detail, or better yet a bonafide schematic, to track down what the white wire is for. Might solve a problem, or might cause new problems farther down the road, depends on what it is actually there for. Or, in twenty words or less, "I don't really know". |

Screw it, go ahead and cut it. You can always reconnect it w/some solder if it doesn't work. |

Initial inspection of my service manual wiring diagram doesn't show a straight white wire. white/yellow goes to the front injector red/white goes to the bank angle sensor black/white goes to the BAS, cam sensor, TPS and IAT sensor. |

I remember from my 1 day mine at school at An Hoa that you should NEVER clip the white wire . . . . could ruin your entire morning |

That white wire is on Euro bikes. Aprila has them too. But as for a US Buell. Don't Know? |

I'm going to guess that it's a ground wire then designed to short circuit the midrange circuitry somehow, or at least some compensating portion of it somehow. I understand screws better than electron flow. |

I think it's only for Euro spec XB models.... PPiA |

"1 day mine at school at An Hoa" This doesn't sound like a course of study that would have prepared its graduates for a long career in the bomb disposal field... r-t |

Did you know that if you clip a green wire on a Suzuki Hayabusa it will fool the computer into thinking the bike is still in 5th gear when it's really in 6th and you can then pull red-line and easily top 200 mph. I read this on the internet so it must be true - now you've read it on the internet too so it must be even truer. I'll bet the Suzuki will go 300 mph now. And if it works on a Suzuki it would probably work on a different brand of bike with a different color wire. Give it a shot, fried electrical parts are cheap to replace |

thang . . .. . nope . .. . but it taught me enough to just walk the loooong way around un-expended ordenance . . . .and call a visitation upon it . . . . .so, I guess it worked |

Ray, There might be some truth to that. The Hayabusa is speed governed, as is the 1200 Ninja. The factories limited the top speed of these bikes to about 187 to keep the EU from passing laws to restrict the top speed of motorcycles, as they had threatened to do. I read this in Motorcyclist as a side bar to the top speed shoot out they did with these two bikes. Jeff |

Try cutting the wire from the battery to the starter. I've heard it makes the bike super duper quite. bighairyralph |

Ralph, Cutting that one may just do the same thing as cutting any of the electronics. Either way you got one real nice lawn ornament, boat anchor, etc, etc |

Hey Guys,I have posted this before. The white wire does nothing,THAT IS NOTHING FOR U.S. bikes. It gives back some power to international models only. The Euro Guys gain the most from this mod but it does not give them U.S. spec .I had an XB9R on order for 11 months and the day on delivery I was asked to sign a release acknowledging that the bike I was purchasing did not have the power that had been advertised in the journo write ups.I was to accept a bike with 70 hp at the crank,I rejected this bike and was given an OZ spec bike for a week on trial with the white wire cut.I dynoed this bike and it showed 65RWHP.The wire is to do with speed sensing into the ecu.To meet our noise regulations our bikes had been detuned. At that time the race kit had not been released,so it was take it as is.All write ups of late are of XB9S that are race kitted bikes,to cover up the lack of power from standard. |

65 hp?? No wonder I hear you guys overseas bitching. And what would noise regulations have to do with detuning the bike? A quiet bike cant make decent power or what? |

I don't remember what color the wire is, better cut 'em all. While you're at it, there's a magic brake line, too..... There is a well documented "magic wire" on the Aprilia, BUT, with the connections this board has, wouldn't we have heard of this before? I mean, this isn't like that Rune "riders" board, we have people that know what their talking about here. |

I think the fix should be an even higher volume muffler that extends out to the side of the bike in an upswept angle...also creating a happy compromise for the import guys about the "wrong" exhaust mounting on Buells. |

Here are some other cheap and easy performance mods A lightweight bike is a fast bike--remove everything that doesn't make the bike run--seat/handlebars (just grab ahold of the forks)/gas and oil tank can be downsized to the minimum (I reccomend packing the crankcase with crisco or vaseline and eliminating that unsightly oil resevoir all together.Convert an old enema bag for the fuel, which you then fit up under your race leathers/as fuel is then pressurized that heavy fuelpump would no longer be needed). Use only wornout tires as these are lighter/hence faster. Simply strip all that bodywork off (I'd sand down the frame with an angle grinder too--way too much wall thickness in those tubes, don't-you-know)--headlight and tailight are really just more dead weight--one of those helmets with a flashing light on top should have the desired effect... If you really feel sitting astride the ECU is too uncomfortable either medicate with Vicodan or some other strong painkiller so you can ignore the discomfort--or cut open the discarded seat and stuff a slab of foam into your britches-- Total weight savings should be around 150 pounds which ought to offer a significant increase in performance over stock-- Let us know how this works out for you |

P.S. These mods only work on Buell Fuel Injected models... |

Now Crisco really makes sense as it is roughly the same color and density as the stuff that used to build up in the snorkel. Hmmm...maybe I should put all that stuff back on. |

Thanks Stormy...That was too funny! Trust me when I say that I have never used the more descriptive (and politically incorrect) terminology describing what I found when gutting the airbox on the BWB. I will leave that to your imagination. |
