I was just saying to Carlos that I'll be glad when the weather gets better so we can ride with you guys again. We're still hoping for the OBX weekend. The rally that traditionally has been at Myrtle Beach has now been moved to New Bern NC. If anyone is coming down for that we could plan a ride as well.
Jimmy, it's a must for us to get together both here and in the mountains. I just found some great roads in central VA coming back from the cabin. It would be a good day ride.
Rubberdown - Let me see if I can get away next Saturday. I want to see you race too. What does it cost for a spectator?
Straight roads, you do not want our play ground to get as messy as Deals Gaps do you?
Now if I wanted to find a different way of going to/from the mountains I would look at going north of Kerr Lake to Clover VA. Get to VA603 and go towards Cody VA. There is an Amish community there to my surprise so watch out for horse drawn buggies. At Cody catch VA40 west all the way to VA8. From there you can either go to US58 or go up hill to the BRP. Not the straightest of quickest way, but the scenery is pretty..
Carlos, I'll check it out next trip.I have a buddy in Glade Spring?Glade Hill? off 40.I need to check out. Now if you guy's crave straight roads try Hwy 12 here on the Outer Banks.
16 north of Marion used to have a few curves. They re-routed it and made it follow a powerline all the way to Bluefield, WV. Squirrel spur was consumed in the states largest sinkhole, and Eggleston road was purchased and now is a farm. An egg farm as a matter of fact.
I have heard the route from Roanoke, VA to Harrisville WV can be scenic. Though you'd have to attend the WV rally to find out. And the you'd have to see Webe do the PB-jelly dance. NUTS
I plan to be up on the mountain April 7 thru 13. I have some chores to due around the cabin before Kristi and the family come up but still should have a day or two to get out and ride. If you are up and available we need to get together and enjoy the scenery.
Hi, I have been just watching on the fringes as I am missing my bike badly. I figured I would let those of you who know me, know that Kylie is not going to be having Chemotherapy at this time. She is doing quite well and has improved in school also. I did find fingerprints bruised into her arm last weekend, and she told me that Mom's boyfriend did it. So you can imagine I was hot. After confronting Mom , I got accused and cursed so I took her to her pediatrician whom reported it to DSS which I have heard nothing from. Luckily I was at Carolina beach and had time to relax before I got home.
Anyway back to the reason I got on here. I did see a red bolt with a polished frame at Kure Beach. I also met a couple of guys yesterday from Germany. They had a lighting in the back of their truck and a white, black, and blue choice for the tank/air cover and a second seat. They told me they had just purchased it and that the other one already had one. They are already looking to ride to Deals Gap, and they thought they may have met one of the Mikes. I gave them the badweb address and instructions on finding C3. Take care everyone. Larry
Not sure when I can get back up.Hauling the boat out tomorrow for annual maint.Got my first charter Sat.Have to tie up loose ends on a 23' boat I just refinished & do some cabin repair on a 42' boat. Then get my butt down to Charleston to visit Teresa's Dad.Then when all that is done I can slip up there between fishing trips.
May not even go now being as VA has been attacked by road straightening, egg farms, and sinkholes. We will just have to be bored as we explore away from Lakeview Resturant late Saturday and early Sunday.
Hey Oldog, I will have to post up here next time I am heading that way. I no longer have my bolt but I like to take Kylie out on the beach and let her play at Freeman Park. Maybe one day I will get me a new bike and we will ride together again. Take care and ride safe, Larry.
Mikethebike: The three roads we discussed in our last e-mail exchange (you know, the ones good for getting all "aggro" on...), are, alas, just as NUTS said.
Going. Going. Gone.
Squirrel Spur, as NUTS mentioned several posts earlier, was indeed consumed by a giant sinkhole.
And that's not the worst of it.
The sinkhole is still, well, sinking, and the *other* two roads are in danger of being swallowed up as we speak.
Damn shame you couldn't have made it up here just a week earlier.
However, just in case you ever get into a trivia contest and need to know this stuff, here is some info regarding the three roads in question.
Squirrel Spur Road starts right in Meadows of Dan, and is VA Rd. #614. It shadows the Parkway for about six miles, then you'll bear hard to the left (towards the Piedmont), still on SS/614, and in about two more miles the real E-ticket stuff begins.
Or, used to, before the sucky sinkhole.
Road #2, aka Willis Gap Rd, aka #771, crosses the Parkway at mile-marker 192. If you hurry, you might get a lap or two on it before it slips into the encroaching hole.
And road #3, aka #691, drops down toward the Piedmont right at the Orchard Gap Market and Deli, right on the Parkway at (you guessed it) Orchard Gap.
As 691 is the furthest distance from the approaching sinkhole, it has the highest chance of actually still being here when you guys come up this weekend. As of an hour ago it's still there and in fine shape, but, well, this is a limited-time offer, so don't delay.
Have fun this weekend, be safe, and dammit, we want pix!
You guys are killing me.My favorite roads are out of reach.I have too much work to do.I need at least 4 days up there RIGHT NOW.Don't forget Dugspur rd.And the Uly eats up Shooting Creek too.
