my wife's silver xb rims are awful looking. she doesn't ride it in the salt, but we dont particularly well wash it all the time, and it sits in a carport year round. and it's a 2004 or so... they have a bunch of whitish crusty especially where they are turned finish. (no, not dangerous deep pitting corrosion, just not smooth and shiny) recommend a good rim cleaning technique? | ||

I put the bike up on the lift and on stands and use paper towel and mothers billet polish. With it on the stand you can hold the paper towel and polish where you want on the wheel and spin it with the other hand, makes it a really quick job. The real bad spots will need more attention. The paper towel is used because it doesn't soak up the polish like cloth and is alittle more abrasive. | ||

Oh, and wipe of the leftover with a micro fiber cloth or the like. | ||

I havent found a good fast way, yet, although supporting the wheel and spinning it sounds like the best idea I've heard. With the perimeter rim on the front and the swing arm in the rear those wheels are a pia to clean. | ||

I wouldnt have a clue, my normal routine of running it through the puddles doesnt sound like it will work for you. | ||

You might give some thought to powder coating them. You can use clear powder coat if you like the aluminum look. Or you can color them. Or you could do both.   I had Pete at Grand Stand Designs, one of our sponsors, coat the inner spokes graphite to match my frame, and the outer rims were polished and clear coated. Makes them a lot easier to clean. I just spray them with Plexus, and wipe them off. | ||

Aluminum tool box polish from Lowes is the best & easiest for polishing aluminum.Look for it by the diamond plate aluminum truck tool boxes.Make sure you put some wax on it afterward to protect it. | ||

Put the bike up on stands and spin the wheel while spraying black paint on them. The black matches the tire so you don't even need to mask anything off. When they look •••••••••• again...do it again. It only takes a few minutes every now and again. | ||

+1 on the wax. It's a pain, but the wheels are shiny and slippery afterwards. My red wheels love the wax. | ||

Get a set of Cityx black wheels. Then never wash them. Everyday they seems to look better and better, as long as you don't touch them. |
