I'm making a couple multiple day trips and I'm looking to carry more then just a backpack full of clothes. Has anyone used saddlebags on their XB before? If so, what kind were you using? I want to get a set, but this will be my first venture into this territory. Looked into a set of the Buell ones. Just seems like there is better in the aftermarket. Any help is appriciated. I used the Buell Ss ones on my TT, and had no problems. I got the full set, including the top bag. Main reason for buying the Buell set is I like to support my dealer. Lots of bag choices out there. |

I just bungee a small duffel to the passenger seat in addition to my tank bag. Obviously that means no passengers, but I dumped the rear pegs the first day. I looked at the Buell saddle bags, but they were just too small for what I wanted. They fit the bike though, so anything that fits will be pretty small. |

i use the cortech sport bags (saddles and trunk) they have a ton of room. to be honest, i rarely have to use the saddles at all, the trunk bag and tank bag supply plenty of cargo room. |

Rapid Transit Recon's. No brackets needed and they hold quite a bit of stuff... |

Careful with the Buell bags. I used them for a while and they scared the plastic on the tail section of my R. |

I also use the Cortech/Tour Master Sport bags and tailbag. Love em, and yes they are huge when expanded. Great customer service too (I lost a strap, they took good care of me). https://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Pro duct.jsp?skuId=&store=Main&catId=&productId=p50520 3&leafCatId=&mmyId= https://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Pro duct.jsp?skuId=505209&store=Main&catId=&productId= p505209&leafCatId=&mmyId= |

Cortec bags are great I got the Blue ones when Whitehorse Gear were selling them. They fit the City X good and I have traveled a lot with them. Same price as Denise Kirk if you are a MSF instructor Whitehorse will give you a discount. K

I have that red set of bags...but those look like they are not expandable any longer?? Both the saddlebags and tailbag that I have are expandable, and they become HUGE when expanded. Dennis Kirk's site no longer calls them expandable either. Can anyone confirm? Bummer if they are not, as the main reasons to buy them over the Buell bags are the lack of quality zippers and waterproofing on the Buells and the small space of Buells... |

My kid's got a set of the Cortech bags in black that he purchased last summer. They are not expandable as I recall. Nice bags for the money though..... |

I know the tail pack is expandable but I don't think the saddle bags are. They have way more space than the old under the saddle Buell bags. K |

I got my saddlebags just over a year ago, Christmas '07 I think. Definitely expandable. Didn't know they changed that. Glad I got 'em when I did. Nels |

Anybody have bags that will work two up? I have a tt so it's the same as an ss. I have a set of soft bags but they seem to be a little large for two up riding. |

Ratfink I use revpak (revpak.com) saddlebags that are the size of a large paper grocery bag and when I not using them rollup to a 3"X14" tube shape that I put in my tailbag. One note though, my tailbag is "U" shaped and straddles my seat on both sides and interfers with getting the saddlebags up high enough. The tailbag is great for day rides. If you want any color other than black get a color swatch first. I ordered grey and when the tailbag and saddlebags arrived they were a kind of pale army green. |

I have a set of Eclipse 'sportbike' generic bags that I used back in the day on the Carving the Northeast tour along with the Buell tank bag. No complaints, and they were dirt cheap (like $60 new off of eBay, and they're local so I didn't even have to pay shipping). Good amount of room, though they are far from waterproof. Nowadays I've got a Ventura rack on the XB9R that probably holds more than those saddlebags did. I cannot say enough good things about the Ventura system - the only downside, IMO, was the price (but worth it). The Uly...well...it's a XT, the bags came with it. |

Love the purdy blue Cortech bags, use the tailbag daily, only take it off when I'm hauling my little man on back of the cityx. Mostly waterproof, the covers help somewhat. If I need to leave the bike exposed to the elements during a torrential downpour (think Tropical Storm Faye), I'll pack the bike cover, get it on as soon as I can and hope for the best. The bike looks like you need a "wide load" sign when you have everything expanded and loaded down tho!!! |

Just got my Ortlieb saddlebags and RKA tank bag mounted on my XT. Ortlieb's look a little saggy when they're empty - not real pretty, but they are waterproof. http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb108/itileman/ ?action=view¤t=SANY0001-2.jpg http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb108/itileman/ ?action=view¤t=SANY0003.jpg |

"Anyone got a pic or pointers of these mounted on an S to save me some frustration." No pics, I'll try to get some tonight if I get the time to. But here's my best advice: 1) Shorten the velcro area between the saddle bags as much as you can, effectively raising them up higher. The higher they are, the lower the seat rails will hit underneath, and the more stable the bags will be on your bike. 2) I use a set of straps to attach to the passenger pegs, and the rear 2 straps connect to each other. Other than that, just make sure it's all snug! BTW, where did you buy them? Are your saddle bags expandable? |

Sorry for the delay- been a busy couple of days. Here's some pics, I hope they help. You can easily ride 2-up with them shifted slightly back from where I have them positioned on the bike in the pics. You can slide them forward for solo riding, but I like them back like they are because the front straps then are going forward to strap to the passenger pegs.
They are large bags for our little bikes, but they can sure hold a lot of crap! |
