Well, not a 1000. But, I rode a 1098 and found it to be awesome! Very response, pulled the wheel off the ground at half throttle and has an agressive riding style. The only thing I found on my 15 minute test ride was the overwelming need to ride 50+ MPH over the speed limit and the fact that my body felt a little kinked in just a short period of time. If I only road my bike at the track and never around town to have fun...I would consider it. Just a little too aggressive for the street. It was comparable to having a new ZO6 for driving to work...just a little too much. (and yes I drove one before) NVM (Message edited by cruzin2 on March 09, 2009) |

Haha I think the difference between a GT1000 and 1098 is like the difference between a blast and an 1125R. |

Haha I think the difference between a GT1000 and 1098 is like the difference between a blast and an 1125R. In reality, it'd be closer to an XB9S and an 1125R. The GT1000 is a solid, reliable, comfortable grand touring bike in the classic European tradition. It does not have the low-end grunt of the XB's, but it does have a decent top-end. The suspension is on the hard side, but that makes it really sporting- and it handles very well. It's probably the most well-rounded offering from Ducati right now. |

Redbuelljunkie, its obviously a quick bike, I was just trying to make clear my point that the 1098 is not the best ducati to describe when trying to get an idea of the GT1000 . The 1098 is a full blown race bike, and a very fast one at that. |

I agree with you 100%, I just thought the XB9S vs 1125 was very appropriate due to 2 vs 4 valve, air vs liquid cooled, under 100 hp vs well over 100 hp, and upright vs sportbike riding position. This is the exact same specs as GT1000 vs 1098. I will say, though, that although the specs are similar between the XB's and GT1000- the character is distinctly different. I still own an XB12R- I no longer own a GT1000... draw your own conclusions. |

ducati.com lists the R models as 1098, the regular and S models are listed as 1198. The Streetfighter is listed as 1199.. same engine? |

I had an extended test ride on a sport 1000 last fall and was quite taken with it. For a classic style bike it handled, stopped, and rode well. I think that it has a beautiful cafe racer look. Some report that the sport version is uncomfortable compared to the GT but I quite liked it. The Duc motor I found to very very smooth and I missed the raw torque feel of my v-twin. I didn't hammer the bike but low end performance seemed mild until about 4500 rpm. From there up it really pulled nice and a quick glance at the climbing speedometer told me it had lot's more. Shifting was quick and smooth and I like that the clutch doesn't rattle at idle. I believe that since '08 the maintenance schedule has been extended to 12000 km for the valve adjustments which is nice. I know a fellow that adjusts his own Duc valves (2 valve heads) which is a major savings as it is crazy expensive at the dealers. The new Duc fuel injection is much better. The stock pipes were too quiet and all Duc aftermarket stuff is very expensive. Same could be said of pretty much all brands now. It really depends on your point of comparison. The guy used to pure sport bikes will think of it as old technology and sluggish. I'm used to a '79 Triumph Bonnie, an '04 Sportster, a Vespa, and a '00 M2, so I found it to be quite high tech! If offered a good deal on one, I would certainly consider it. |

Domindart- that's the Sport1000S, and I think it's the best-looking bike Ducati currently makes. I could not, however, ride one on the street without having unlimited access to a chiropractor- it's a torture rack. The GT1000 is the same bike with "sane" ergonomics. |
