Brian - I know YOU'LL be at Homecoming - I only hope that I can be. Get your butt outta there soon as they let you. You've got good karma, the Universe owes you a few points on the scoreboard. |

Lots of people have it worse than I do. No matter how it goes I'll still do the things I want to do. I'm stubborn that way. |

Well, I'm out of recovery and in my room for at least tonight, maybe more... It's hard to say how this is working right now, My stomach and back are sore, but my sciatic isn't hurting right now (IV morphine may have more than a little to do with that though). Like I said, just a regular guy doing what I have to do to stay sane and keep my identity instead of letting events conspire to rob me of who I am/who I was. You guys would do the same if you were in my shoes. |

I am praying for a "great" outcome. I know it's too soon, now, to judge. My wife has undergone similar surgery. She's much better now. My best. |

Brian, I really hope this helps with your pain. I too suffered from chronic back pain related to my sciatic nerve and a broken vertebrae. I ended up with a spinal fusion at L4/L5 about 18 years ago. Pretty much every doctor, except the one doing the surgery, told me not to have it. Too risky, they said. Well, when you can't walk, can't play with your kids, are afraid you won't be able to keep working, and on and on, you're willing to take some risks. My surgery turned out very positive for me. I'll never have a completely healthy back, but I can function without pain most of the time. I try not to think about the future where my back in concerned. I just try to be as active as I can and hope it lasts as long as possible. Anyway, I just said a prayer for you and am wishing you the best. |

Ochoa: both of those issues are GREATLY reduced when the morphine is directly injected into the spine instead of being ingested, and it takes 1/300th as much of it. |

Feeling pretty good now and I'll actually be going home today! I will be racked out on the couch when I get there though....no stretching, no reaching, etc, etc since I have incisions on both my stomach and back. |

Ouch! Glad to hear you got through it OK. Find a good book or DVD and enjoy the drugs while you can. |

My Mom suffered terrible back pain for years, and finally the right surgeon, the right treatment, and the right rehab got her back to 90% and doing all the things she loves to do. I hope you get it all sorted out. Good luck, Bill |

instead of letting events conspire to rob me of who I am/who I was. You guys would do the same if you were in my shoes I've seen people give up under much less, as far as what I would do, I would hope to be as strong and stuborn as you... |

Well, I've been home for around 12 hours and if this is how I am going to feel from now on......I'm delighted! my pain score (1-10) for the past several years has fluctuated between a minimum of about a 3 and a max of 10. I am currently (with the exception of the incision on my stomach) at about a 1. I find my thoughts echoing in my head because of all the space/attention/concentration that the pain had taken up. It's AMAZING! Some of this may be due to carryover from the anesthesia, but right now I'm afraid my poor family will be forced to chain me down to keep me from doing all of the things the Doctor (Steve Street of the Boone County Pain management clinic) told me not to. Not to put the cart in front of the horse, but if this keeps on working this well...... Bring on the summer! I've been waiting years for this!

Sorry, no Diablo stunt show, my bum leg will still keep me out of the stunt show business, although I have been known to fall over on solid level ground so "I've got that going for me" just caught caddy shack.again the other day |
