Did they fix the surging issue in the later F650 versions? Henrik |

Henrik. I suppose so: "I guess BMW are constantly updating the electronic engine management system. It's definitely an ace commuter bike, because of it's good manners rolling the throttle on and off at low revs, its nimbleness and its cracking acceleration through the gears away from the lights, which I felt was even better than on my GS." Power starts right from 1500 RPM And what more: One sided swingarm. Hans |

Well, I just picked up an SV650 for my wife...she rode years ago before our 7 year old son was born, but we sold her Ascot VT500 then. She's been riding her TTR-125 dirt bike quite a bit recently, this is a great bike for her street reintroduction. But the bike I got is so trick, I'll likely need to tame it a bit. I picked up the bike from Sunyvale from a nice "old guy" (62) who has the same disease as me, can't leave well enough alone. He dumped over 4K worth on bit and bobs and go fast stuff. It's a red 2001 49 state model, 13.5K miles and has: K&N-style individual intake filters Black Widow full header system http://www.bwracing.com/suzukiSV_body.html Penske 8100 Shock Lindemann Fork work Competetion works Fender Eliminator S model Top Triple clamp with Two Brothers fully adjustable clipons, nice, they come almost up to the stock position for the standard SV, down to the stock S position, or anywhere in between http://www.twobros.com/Perf_Products/HB/V3Handlebars.shtm Billet rear sets (they're coming off for Joanne) Braided stainless lines Faux CF hugger Frame sliders Corbin Seat NICE tank bra RKA Tankbag with hidden Cobra radar detector, wired to the bike, easily detachable. Small Clear flysecreen with integrated LED Radar detector "Heads up" display, driven off the audio circuit on the Radar detector..way cool Custom paint matched Rear cowl Fairly worn tires on the bike, plus a set of new Metzler Z4 (I think) tires 1 CRG mirror, 1 Napolean ??? I'll put another CRG on it. All the stock parts (seats, triple clamp, bars, airbox, exhaust came with it. Oil changed every 2K, owner maintained, came with service manual, and dyno charts, does 75HP (or did a year ago when it was dynoed). A few pics

sorry... It's beauty, for sure. And 650 or not, it sounds SUWEET!! Between the individual intake filters on each carb and a hi-performance race pipe, the thing seriously growls. If you heard it, you'd think TL, not SV. I thought Joanne would think it too loud, but she likes it! |

I'm now up to $4,000 invested into my race SV, including the price of the bike. I have: Ohlins rear shock Race teck .90 front springs and CBR F3 cartridges (fully adjustable) Spare front and rear wheels with all the goodies Belly Pan Front number plate I'm using the stock clip ons for now and leaving the engine stock until I get the first couple of races out of the way. It's been fun putting this bike together and some Buellers have tossed some parts my way to help get me going. Once I get my license, I'm going to start hounding companies for sponsorship. I am STOKED about going racing! The downside is I sold my TLR to help support my race effort Vik |

What kind of info do you have on the radar detector? That setup looks great. I'd love to do something similar on my bike. Scratch that. I need to do something similar on my bike. |

Vik, the TLR wouldn't do a good job doubling as a track bike tho. I've seen unfavorable results. The fork on the SV, are they not preload adjustable? I noticed traxxion dynamics has preload adjuster caps available for them. Wish they made them for the X1. Vik, set up a pay pal thingy on SacBORG to support your race effort! |

I took the TLR out to the track and it did pretty well. Fat torque curve is niiiice. The 954 will kill it. I may look into that PayPal thing. I want to get my license first, though. |

The stock SV forks don't have any adjustment...I've heard the '02's do, but the stock one's dont. The front end on the stock SV is a joke. Super soft. The setup I have now is about as good as you can get without swapping to a GSXR front end. |

Vik, hopefully you also obtained other spares. Bars and foot controls to be specific. I'm currently making up 3 each of all my controls and 3 Crossroads handlebar plates. Yeah I've heard the sock SV forks are worse than an X1. Sounds like you are set to go now. How about tires? I'm taking a trip to the beach this weekend to pick up some closeout Pilot Race meat. The tire dude is making room for the new Pilot Race 2. So I'll get about $120 off to get them out of his shop. I'll use the Pirelli Dragon the rest of the season. Controlled slides and give good feedback, let you know when they're on the envelope's edge instead of just breaking loose unexpectedly. |

Jason, I'll get back to you on the radar detector. I have to contact the previous owner for some registration stuff, so I'll ask him the details. He indicated that he sent the Cobra radar detector to the guy that makes the heads-up LED display, and the guy opened up the radar detector and made some minor mods to it to drive the LEDs off the audio circuit. I'll see if I can get some contact info. I did find some interesting reading at http://attaway.net/radar/ and http://cycleradar.com/hard_system.htm |

fyi, I bought the 2002 fork caps for the SV650 from http://store.yahoo.com/azmotorsports/suzukisv650.html, they supposedly just go right on and add adjustable preload. Only $25 a side, which is a great deal considering the aftermarket adjustable caps were over $100. You can pretty much get all the OEM parts from them at discount. And if you don't know the part number, you can find the part book fiche (and buy the parts, but no discount) at http://www.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/shopindex.asp Note that you have to specifiy the 2000 year to get to the SV650 parts index, they don't list the 2001/2002. But the fiches they show are more current than 2000. |

Glider: I've been buying spares as I see them. I have spare clutch and brake levers and one set of spare clip ons. I haven't even started researching tires yet... So much to do to get ready to race. I still have to do all the safety wiring, too. There are times I think I should have just bought a bike that was race ready; but, I still believe I'm getting a better understanding of the bike by building it myself. I will be very happy when I have my first race out of the way. |

Vik, Yeah, I know what you mean. If it was me I'd start out with Dunlop and work my way through the rest of the list 'til I found out what I liked best. Different bikes, different tracks, different styles, different weather...what works best today might suck tomorrow. It's kinda like choosing a woman. (Did I say that?) Greg |

Vik, On DOT race tires... Metzeler Rensport or Pirelli Supercorsa baybee. All the way. Have no doubts. Michelins are a close 2nd. |

Vik: I had Computrack look at my bike and give some good starting numbers for front and rear ride height. The tires that gave me the best (right on their "sweet" numbers - which if nothing else is a good place to start ) were the Metzeler Rennsports/Pirelli Supercorsa. I went with the Rennsports, since I've used and enjoyed Metzeler tires for many years. Very neutral handling with no tendency to stand up/heel over in turns - on or off the brakes. Henrik (ping me if you want the ride height numbers) |

Jason, The cycleradar.com site listed above is where the heads-up unit that plugs right into the audio jack on a radar detector comes from. http://www.cycleradar.com/cycle_lite.htm Pricey, though. Al |

X1G, Quote:Controlled slides and give good feedback, let you know when they're on the envelope's edge instead of just breaking loose unexpectedly.
Is that what your orthopedic surgeon advised? LOL! Please, leave the sliding stuff to Colin Edwards and Ben Bostrom. The pros advise that the Rensports and Supercorsas grip tight like Michelins but last longer. If you want predictable sliding, like Ben Bostrom seems to like, go with Dunlops. Friggin' CMRA fool leader Gremmels drug his arse ALL summer and beyond, so OHR is just now getting around to being repaved. Ruined our holiday track plans! Please go kick his arse for me! |
