Well, I just picked up a new project. All I can say is I'm much more proud of my "pile" than the wife is ,but I'll show her.
I couldn't keep that SEG off my face as I was unloading it.
The more I looked it over the longer my wait to ride her will be. First on the list is to get the exhaust taken care of so I can see if she'll start.

I've been sworn to secrecy not to tell how ridiculously cheap I got it. PM for the truth 'cause I'm being watched. |

It looks to be in about the same shape as my S1W when I got it. Maybe a little worse. Of course half of mine was in boxes LOL. I really need to get another project going! |

I gotta try and keep the excitement level down so I don't go too crazy with mods. I love the look of the mantaray tanks on these things,it adds to the pitbull look of the S-1. I put one on my other S-1 and love that extra 30 miles I can get out of it. I may do some experimenting with this bike and if it works it will probably move it to S-1 #1 since that's the show and tell bike. Tom, did you have those forks anodized or powder coated? When I rebuilt my forks I'd entertained the thought of PC them but I couldn't stand to keep her torn apart that long. I took the easy way out and just painted the trees and fork bottoms to add some contrast.

See, and here I thought you just "YOUSUCKREALLYREALLYBAD". But after seeing that last pic & being reminded you already have an S1 as well as your 1125R, I have to amend that statement and say, "YOUREALLYREALLYREALLYREALLYREALLYREALLYSUCK" Don't let my wife see this thread, she'll know immediately which gears are grinding in my head! P.S. Hit me up next time your up in the DFW area. Bike nights are starting up again and there's a few different 1's to choose from. (Message edited by P_squared on March 11, 2009) |

Shane, I think it's PC, but it could just be paint--the forks were black when I acquired the rolling chassis. rt |

Great project bike. I'll presume that you stole it from all the crap your gettin. The tank looks almost the same color as mine. Also running the Manta tank on my S1.Nice to go well over 200 miles between fill ups. |

Alright I finally got some time to get started. I dropped off the Force to get sewed up and should be done by the weekend. I started at the front boy did I learn some things.
What a PIA to get the PM's off and now I know why I would've changed to the Nissin. Twice as many parts and time it takes to get the pads out. Also I couldn't get the wheel off without pulling the caliper and of course having to pull the pads since the PM won't come out and I still had to loosen the rotor bolts to get enough room.
I'd forgotten how tough it is to get the OEM rotor bolts out.....mucho pounding with a 5 pounder and hand impact did the trick. I guess there's no way to upgrade to use the same spring and single pin set up of the '98 & ups. I was hoping it was just cleaning and setting aside for reuse until the chipped pad came out. DOH! Anyone got suggestions for aftermarket replacements?
One more question, the thin washers in the pic were in between the caliper and fork mount. Is that necessary?
Out with the old...
on with the new. |
