I posted this over in the Old school board (unintentionally) so I thought I would put it here as well..... So yeah, I am maybe a bit crazy BUT I am on spring break starting next week thursday(20th) till the 29th and I am going to take the Uly out to Colorado. Any first hand rider reports of conditions along the way? (may be a bit premature to ask that question). Also if anyone wants to tag along for the trip or any part of it let me know. I always welcome riders. And yes.... a post trip report will follow! | ||

Pull your wheels before the trip and check all 4 wheel bearings. They'll feel stiff as they almost always do but then pull the seals and wipe in grease. Push back in the seals and then you'll not worry about bearing failure on your frigid trip. Too darn early for Colorado. | ||

Electra, Sad thing is, its warmer in CO than it is in WI! Yeah I am pulling the wheels this week to mount up some new tires and figured I would pull all the bearings and throw in new just to be safe. Thats one thing I dont want to deal with in the middle of nowhere Nebraska! | ||

Be carefull out there Chris - Finished trip home from Arizona to Wa yesterday. Snowed all the way from Oregon Siskiyous to Olympia...in March for chrisake!! Thankfully nothing sticking to the road surface, but still a few Icy spots here and there. I always carry a spare belt - increases the odds of not needing one. Dealers don't always have 'em in stock. Got a heated vest ? Tourmaster carbon for about $100 good investment ! (excuse pun attempt) Enjoy the adventure. j | ||

Chris...what part of Colorado are you heading for? Last week we hit the 70's in Denver (although only around 38 today), but the mountains still have a lot of snow...maybe not on the main roads, but lot's of gravel on the mountain roads this time of year. With 300 days of sunshine per year, Denver has a lot of good riding weather (year round). Have fun on the trip! | ||

Although no one asked me . . .but when has that ever stopped me before . . .the Kansdakotabraska Prairie begins a few blocks east of my house and does not let up until somewhere in Missouri. There are many places in that vast landscape that could aptly be renamed NoWhere . . .or "The Good Life" . . .all depending upon your appreciation for the concept of endless flat. Too darn early for Colorado Really?  Chris, have a great trip. Dress warm. It snowed this AM but is gone now. Weather is a little drastic in March but just allow yourself plenty of time. Jphish speaks the truth, it is just the nature of this area. We will see if we can get Maximum and Troyz to come down South. Also J2Blue is in Canon City. Sounds like a trip to Bishops Castle or some of the dirts roads around Canon are in order. | ||

Maximum, I will be staying with a buddy of mine in Colorado Springs (if he ever gets back to me that is). As far as spare parts, yes I do have a spare belt, and will be taking a set of spare bearings. I dont have a heated vest, I really have been toying with the idea, I like to think I am still young and dumb enough that I dont need something like that and to just dress in layers lol I am sure I will get cold during the ride. I cant wait to start my adventure! | ||

Chris - I used to be a "don't need no stinkin vest" guy. But when your core gets cold, the arms, legs and brain only get the 'leftovers' in terms of blood supply... then I start shaking worse than the Uly. @ 60mph you simply can't wear enough layers, when its in the 30's, to keep warm. Aint fun or safe. It saved my sorry butt twice this year. I ride year round (unless it's actively snowing) MCSS can have it to you before you leave next week. Good return policy if you don't like it. Sounds like a fun trip - stay warm. j | ||

I'm looking forward to your ride report. this summer I planned a trip from Colorado going thru Nebraska and headed towards Green Bay then into Michigan going back home. I'm really interested in what you find in Nebraska since I've talked to other people who have visited the state and said it's very country. K | ||

Probably not the time of year to explore this area but this part of Nebraska is just beautiful, remote and probably pretty much the same as it a thousand years ago. I go to Omaha (work related) about twice a year. The last time I was there (Feb) the weather was great but I did not have time to sightsee, that is anything beyond the Old Market area. Great beer and food! Seems like I am always in NE during the winter but if I go during the summer I will ride the S2-T out and check out those other areas and roads. The drive from WI to Colorado is boring on the interstate. Done it several times (GF is from Fond du Lac). | ||

There are a couple of places locally that have or can get those Tourmaster vests. Metro Motorcycle in Neenah can order them if they don't have one in stock. Andy is a good guy and he could probably get it there very quick for you also. Otherwise I have seen them at Pro-Motorsports in Fond du Lac and Team-Motorsports in GB. Have fun on the trip. | ||

Hey Guys, Just wanted to update the thread a bit. My parts are starting to come in. Which is great. Today I got my XM antenna as well as my crampbuster. I have a HUGE concern though. My front and rear pushrod gaskets are leaking. Its not bad but not good either. I called my local dealer and they said that they dont have any in stock and wont get them till wednesday....I leave thursday morning! D'oh! So has anyone ever heard of a blowout on those pushrod seals? I know a bit of leakage isnt all that uncommon especially with doing shorter trips. Would the bike make a 5000 mile trip with the leak? | ||

Chris - You might want to check with some of the Uly high milers - Debueller, Dr Greg, FtBstrd, Electoglider and others to see if they have had weepy PR seals. May only be an annoyance not a huge problem, and could wait untill your return. j | ||

If you come in on I-80 or come down south on I-76, consider heading west to High Cntry H-D/Buell in Frederick. We'd be glad to visit, get you some coffee, provide any service you may require and make it worth the stop. We are open 7-days a week too, so Sunday service is no problem. Ask for ~jammer. PS. when I rode into work Sat at 7:30am it was 22 deg. but it was 70 by mid day. | ||

Chris, HCHD is a great place for Buell service, sales and parts. Looks like I will be heading up there soon for my 1K service. It is 60 degrees today and Lynn and I did about 200 miles. A little chillier up North but nice and toasty down here in the banana belt.. Hopefully you will be able to keep us up to date on your travels when you take off on Thursday. Frank | ||

Jammer, Hey thanks for the support. I will definitely stop in. Depending on my trip I may need a rear tire so I will hit you guys up. Frank, I will be taking my laptop with me and making some stops alone the way to let everyone know my status. At this point it looks like I may stop in the Grand Island NE area thursday night to get some shut eye depending on how many miles I can get in and how early I can get out of here. My buddy from the springs also planned a Moab, UT trip for Friday thru monday so I'm going to be seriously hurting after all those miles! But hey I would rather be on the Uly than a cage anyday so I take the good with the bad. | ||

" It will be in mid 70's here n northern Colorado's Front Range tomorrow. I have been riding all winter. I think we have a 100 yr record low of snow, and in March our snowiest month, we only have something like 1.9" so far. That stuff on the weather channel is for ski tourism, us riders ignore it and in so doing get lots of miles in. ~jammer | ||
