I started taking my X1W apart last weekend and I realized that the exhaust mount clamp was broken at the bolt hole.  I was thinking I would buy some sheetmetal, shape it like the clamp and TIG weld it along the clamp to "double" it. Any of you guys had the same issues, any suggestions on fixing it? ...or should I just get a new one? | ||

Dude that clamp strap sucks, On my 01 x1 i had to fab up a 1/2" in metal hanger bracket and then i made 2 cuts into the bracket's one front and one rear so i could slip an exhaust clamp around the muffler and into the cut's 1 for the front and 1 for the rear. You will need some half inch steel plates and 2x double thick exhaust clamp straps heavy duty diesel type one's. I will shoot some pics of mine an post them up tomorrow | ||

Bhillberg i would cut a small strip of rubber from a car tire the side wall should be just right and use it instead. WOW $32.00 bucks for a stupid clamp no thanks. I got my clamps from napa auto parts. Ok here is the part# @ NAPA auto parts 7335975 5" clamp strap style $13.69 ea. If i remember i had to cut the bolts down a little after install the were to long for my taste. EDIT: Crap wrong part number. I just had this clamp delivered and it is 3" x 5" to wide i will get back to you guys here with the right stuff tomorrow sorry!! (Message edited by preybird1 on March 09, 2009) | ||

I think I am thinking along the same lines as X1-rider, and thinking about using high temp RTV. I know we use it on jet engines in some pretty hot spots but it does say that it is rated to 500 deg. I may be wrong but I am pretty sure that they color code these things and it is the same color as the silicone piece that came original. woops, wrong post I saw on another post someone was asking about the temp at that location. Mine broke the second day I had my Bike. I got a 1/8 x 1 ½ wide aluminum plate from Lowes and formed it around a pipe, beat it some with a hammer, ect. It seems to be holding up well.  | ||

Not a bad piece of work there. Why aren't you using the updated y hanger in front? To my understanding all 2001 x1's have an updated front y hanger for exhaust, I have one on my bike. See now this whole time i thought you guys were having trouble with the rear can mounting bracket. I have never seen the x1 without the new hanger. Wow that looks weird to not see the Y bracket! Forget what i posted unless it is your rear hanger mount! I wonder if it because of the exhaust system you guys are using. I have the super trap on mine. | ||

not sure, but I don't think the stock y hanger works with the force pipe. | ||

Buelleaver, that's a good idea, I think I have some aluminum flat stock 1/8 x 1 1/2. Did you have to anneal the aluminum so it wouldn't crack while bending? I'm thinking maybe I'll just TIG weld the tabs on because of the sharper angles. Did you just transfer the orange part on the new hanger? I hang my Force pipe with the stock hanger on mine.  | ||

Hey x1_rider move your clamp to the middle of the y bracket where your zip tie is and spread it apart and put the spacer from the hanger's middle between the 2 clamp parts put the bolt through the whole thing at once. The hanger has 2 rubber isolators that help snub the vibration, I think i can see the spacer and all the stock hardware to work correctly! | ||

Not sure what grade aluminum I got, but it was very soft, no annealing was necessary. You do have to be careful not to over work the material. I’m sure some grades of aluminum would crack. I made sure to keep the smaller radius on the end as large as possible to prevent a fracture there. The rubber was from the original force mount. I don’t remember what diameter I used, but I wrapped it around a smaller outer diameter pvc pipe to allow for spring back. You can flatten out the original hanger to get a rough idea on the required developed length. The thicker material will require a longer blank. I left extra and then cut it off. About 2 years and 6k so far with no problems. | ||

I used a standard stainless two bolt band clamp from an auto parts store and it has been working great on my S1 | ||

I made one for the rear on my Force,cause I've seen too many brackets break on people's bikes. I took some aluminum strap from (insert fav. building superstore) and got some rubber strap that is used on Jardines'. So now I have front and rear rubber isolated hangers. It's been going strong for a year now.  Yeah I know the rubber colors don't match(that's what she said) but sometimes it's function before fashion. | ||

No one uses the provided rear exhaust mount for the Force exhaust? I never had any problems with mine, when I took it off last weekend the isolator looked pretty good still.  | ||

X-1,that metal bracket that came with the pipe commit suicide within a month. I decided after searching so long for a good deal on this pipe that I wouldn't take anymore chances and have the bracket welded to the pipe break. | ||

+1 on welding it directly tvzfo the pipe. I got sick of carrying a wrench with me on my X1 with a "Daytona Boss" pipe so I brazed the clamps right to the muffler. My front strap popped after a season so I reinforced it with the handle of a cheap stainless barbecue fork. It's ugly but it hasn't needed any attention for about 28,000 miles now. Make sure the whole exhaust is settled in before committing to making it permanent. You know... loosen everything up and beat on it all to "relax" it. | ||

Have any of you had trouble melting the rubber, Blazin Buell, or Buelleaver? What type of rubber won't melt on the exhaust. I had a car hanger melt on me. |
