Hi Folks!

I've been watching the Ulys since 2006. I've been lurking here and stopping in to sit on them at the local dealers since then too. I'm real methodical and conservative in my purchases (as I don't have the money to waste). I've got a KLR that I ride and I do my share of real dual sporting. My wife and I do our share of 2-up and I do like to also put more road miles on that is out of the KLR's comfort zone. thus the Uly would fit my needs.

So anyway, the wife told me today that I could trade her scooter in (2008 - 300 miles) and get the Uly. I'm self employed and (in this economy) don't want to jump the gun... but it is very tempting to go buy one! I want to keep the KLR for the rougher trips, but the wife wants me to sell it justify the new bike. I'll work on her on that subject!

My question is: What is a great deal I can pull of at the dealer? My favored dealer doesn't seem to flexible on pricing.

I will need bags (Outdoorsmen preferably), a GPS, Buell toolkit at the least to make me real happy. Could I get anything "thrown in" or do I just have to work on the out the door price and then buy the extras myself?

I appreciate your advice!

this is pretty much a buyer's mart right now so if the dealer that you speak of doesn't want to deal see if one of the sponsers are anywhere around you. even if you have to take a little bit of a trip to get what you want, it'll make for a nice ride. some dealer's will deal and some won't. also find out what kind of service that they do with buells.

If you want to get an older model, you should be able to work them over for a good price.

If you want an 09, price it out at a couple of dealers to see who gives you the best price.

Get the extras separate. Most dealers, especially the one's that sponsor Bad Web will give discounts.

The list is here:

Some sponsors don't have a banner and are not listed in there.

I've got an 08 XT,I was also waiting for the right deal. The 08 had the upgrades I was waiting for. (bags, heated grips, larger crank pin, and a different ECM). I don't think they could have made it any better. Each dealer seems to "give" (for lack of a better word), different things. Negotiate everything, the WORST they can say is no. (don't take their first offer). Greatlakes HD, in Michigan did an awesome job for me. It was a real pleasure dealing with them. Good luck on your decision, it's going to be great.
P.S. the knowledge base here on the bad web will also really help

That's the kinda info I was looking for. I knew there were some ulys being sold for under MSRP. As Idaho Buelly pointed out. Thanks for the link, Froggy. I found my local dealer there too.

What I'm finding out is you have to educate the dealer on this process. The sales guys I talked to probably didn't even know they sponsored this forum... let alone knew the difference between models.

Knowing what you guys are getting the bikes for OTD is very helpful info.

Thanks.

It really depends on who you get. My dealer is a sponsor, they got some new sales guys who don't know much about Buells but were asking me questions and were willing to learn.

My '09 X was 11,800 OTD just over 2 weeks ago. Original quote was 14,600. I had to restrain my wife when they got down to the 11,800 price, because once she smells blood while shopping, we could have been there for hours for a difference of a few hundred. Anyway, the bike was nekkid. I was happy enough with the price. It was the second place I looked out of 4, but I had to travel about 150 miles from home to find that deal.

The local H-D/Buell (about 3 miles from me) will wind up with whatever warranty work I need. My carport will wind up with whatever normal maintenance needs the bike will have. Or, if I buy a big enough shed, maybe I'll do it in there...

There tend to be people at dealerships who know, and a lot of people who don't. Things go a lot better once you find the right person to talk to.

Every Buell dealer is required to have at least one "Buell Tech" in their service department. This is someone who has been trained to work on Buells. You might ask to speak with them, and explain you're thinking about getting a Buell and wanted to meet the person who was going to be working on it. Then ask them which sales person you should be talking to.

Bculy,

I see you are in Oregon.

A buddy at work just bought a new '07 at the dealer in Tacoma, WA for $9100 OTD.

He played hardball with them and got a screaming deal........

I wouldn't overlook the used market. 06's are great bikes too and you can't beat $7K

Ok, here's the plan...

Go ahead and buy the Uly without selling or trading the KLR, then when you get home with the new bike, tell her they didn't offer you enough in trade and you're going to sell it yourself. Then post it on both ebay and craigslist with a price you know to be above market value, not a stupid lot more, but just enough to keep anyone from buying it. of course if a wanker comes along and agrees to pay your price, take the money and run! But if it goes as planned, you'll still have the KLR and your wife will understand that the market sucks and noones buying, and then you can use a line something like this "damn, i wish i had waited until I had it sold before i bought the Uly, oh well, live and learn!"

Yessirree! Nothin' beats a good-runnin' '06. Of course I'm biased. But they can be had for <$7K now.

Wow. Thanks for everyone's great advice. Now I gotta go to work and see what I can pull off.

Great link, Jinance! That was an awesome trip. Good idea, California, I may use that to keep the KLR.

Wish me luck.

Wish me luck.

You need more than luck; you're going to need something to ease the pain you'll be getting in your cheeks from the permagrin the Uly is going to give you.
I Strongly recommend you avoid trying Ben Gay.

Crusty, it is painfully obvious that you have not been to March Badness or Buelltoberfest. Something needs to be done with you!

Oh the things you don't know! Can't be discussed in the open, but you may want to look back at threads from after the events last year. I will say it was beyond funny.

Ok. I asked the Buell service tech for the best salesman to talk to (great idea Jinance). Got hooked up with one and he seems to be working on my behalf... except not aggressively on price, in my opinion.

It's an 09 X at the MSRP of 11,495 plus $1,200 of dealer tags, destination, set-up, etc. Oregon doesn't have tax. $1,200 additional fees?? I'm thinking they should wave them! What do you think I could get away with? I haven't even added bags, GPS....

I won't buy it unless I feel I'm getting a screaming deal. My credit union has a 4.5% MC loan on new MCs and he's talking Harley financing. Anyone have experience with that. I'm putting money down and might trade my wife's '08 scooter in too.

I hate dealing with salesmen. I just wanna be a Uly owner.

if you don't like that deal, go find another one. don't even discount the possibility of a fly and ride for the right deal. already one guy on here got a smokin deal on an xt here in florida and i think he was from new york.

I have had HD financing twice. No problems at all with them. They beat the local competition on rates for me. Only thing is, they expect you to pay them back!(something I have noticed with my other loans to).

If I can recall correctly, I remember reading something about them having merged with Ford Motor Credit.

I pulled the trigger tonight. Maybe I shouldn't have, but I did. It's a bad economy and I work harder than shi* because of that, but I also deserve it.

So... I got a new 08 XB12X. I got an ok deal I feel. I offered $12k for the bike PLUS the Buell Zumo GPS, deluxe tank bag, tail backpack and the good tool kit. they countered with $12.4k and I took it. I made them throw in t-shirt and hat though!

I pick it up Tuesday. Yeah!!

Break-in?? Should I go by the book?

Good choice with Latus. As for breakin, there is a long running debate as to breaking it in.
