Hey people,I have an 01 X1 Lightning with HBBI Intake, Race ECM, and Force streetfighter exhaust. I have already used ecm spy to re-map my bike to get more fuel but still run dangerously lean at 3500 rpm and high TPS. I was curious if anyone knows where or how to get larger fuel injectors or what injectors will cross over?

Carbonlighting:

You have an E-MAIL !!!

You should be able to re-map to run richer ...

On my CARB. BUELL, "i" run 12 to 1 fuel/air ratio ...

With a bigger throttle body and better injectors the performance will get much better ...

Your throttle body(OEM) can be bored out and a larger butterfly installed ...

I've heard that injectors from a PT cruiser will work. They inject fuel faster, so they don't require as much duration time when you tune the ECM. Sorry I don't have many details. Mine doesn't have enough engine work to require different injectors.

You can have your injectors modified as well, I had mine at an injector shop and they made the pulse width a bit bigger so it gets a little more fuel for a tiny bit longer.

??

The "pulse width" is controlled by the ECM, the "maps" are reference values that plug into the "fuel equation" for various conditions that with the sensors control the pulse width.

The injectors were modded for flow or spray pattern? you can also perhaps have the responce times altered?

From above you have a lean condition at 3500 rpm and large throttle opening have you maxed the adjustment in the ECM out? the O2 has no effect as you would be out of cruiise settings
WOT or just below is said to be "on the map"

Higher flow injectors will require a remap
assuming that the pump can maintain pressure, proceed with caution...

Yes, I have used ecm spy and i am maxed out on my settings in my lean area. I've talked to several techs and my old local mechanic and the fuel injectors and possibly a pump are my only option to richen the mix. Im just gonna have to buy or find a place that modifies the injectors themselves. I appreaciate the advice and help fellows.

Sorry I can't help you with your specific issue but I am just wondering what you mean by "maxing out" your settings. Is there a maximum value for the pulse width in the fuel maps? Or may be a better question is what is the maximum pulse width the injectors can support?
Thanks.

Will the big twin injectors from an early twin cam work? Brook mccabe tells me that he has run 150 hp on stock harley injectors.

you have some simple mods there, this lean condition doesn't sound right. could it be something else? intake seals? clogged fuel filter?

Like Buellistic always says "make sure its in good mechanical condition before you try to mod and tune"

Yes, My MAX is 255 and its set at that across the board on the upper end of my map. The motor was had a complete top end rebuild "Jugs up" by my mechanic and is great condition. Ill check the fuel filter but i replaced that a year ago. The motor is pushed over .40. The engine, intake, seals, exhaust headers are all tight and not leaking.

I agree, we have done several X-1's and none were like that.

You don't need bigger injectors unless your bike is running higher lift cams and some serious headwork. I'm running the PT Cruiser injectors in mine but I've got a highly modified engine. I've run the stock injectors and the bike WILL NOT go lean below 4K no matter what the TPS is. You have some other issue. Bigger injectors will be difficult to tune if you can't use the fuel. You will be pulling off so much fuel for the stock cams that it could make it difficult to get it to run smoothly. Check the issues mentioned already. BR.

even then, there are some guys with BIG cams, major head work and big bore kits that have been able to run the stock injectors... even though they have to push the values in the map to ALMOST max.

I'm not doubting you mechanic here, but there is a chance that the intake seals didn't seat right and they could be leaking. Even some of the most seasoned mechanics agree that intake seals can be tricky and can screw up easily... which would explain the extreme lean condition.
Or could possibly be a sensor thats WAY out and telling your ECM that it needs less fuel... but i can't think of any situations at the moment... I'm in class, so I'm multi-tasking

Hope you figure it out, it SUCKS when you bike isn't running right.

to get more fuel but still run dangerously lean at 3500 rpm and high TPS

How do you know? Front or rear? How lean?

my guess is that he was getting it remapped on the dyno...

Yes Texastech is right. I had the bike dynoed and thats how i found my problem. The problem is less than it was before i remapped the bike, but i still ran too lean after 3500 Rpm at 100% TPS. I only seem to run lean at high TPS above 3500 rpm though. Im going to go through and check my entire fuel delivery system and the intake gaskets into the heads and around the intake itself. ANy other ideas im open for suggestions. I want the power that im suppose to be getting. around 95 Hp at the wheel and 92 FT lbs of torque atleast. Im only getting 79HP and 76 FT Lbs of torque.

OUCH!

check the usual, head temp sensor, oxygen sensor, intake gaskets, check to make sure the fuel system is free of any clogs or other things that may choke your fuel supply... something is defiantly a mis.

Don't forget the injectors will come apart and you can take the 10 miron screens out and examine them for CRUD
They just pop apart,Use 2 pliers and a soft rag so you don't cheese em up and pull em apart....Wait careful there is a spring in there that may shoot out can't remember at the moment just be careful not to lose it either OR DROP THE FILTER SCREEN.

Yes, i have the race ecm and remapped it on the dyno to reduce the leaness as much as it would let me. I was running 18.5 to 1 on the upper end, after maxing out the settings im still running 16.5 to 17 to 1. But now since the weather is gonna be cold again for a lil bit im gonna go through the fuel delivery system and check all the gaskets and such again.

Quick thought, I have the XB heads with the PCV Breathers out of the top of the heads. When I replaced and put the intake on and it came with the banjo bolts and the extra breather i through that on there as well. When i took the old airbox off those holes were plugged. Could this be a source of my problem??

No,you have fuel delivery problem or intake leak. None of the X-1's we have seen are like this. Have 2 right now and both are easily tuneable.

somethin is fudged, for one thing running that lean would make all kinds of power! but i would not dare ride my bike or drive my car with an a/f like that!!!! it has to be a major problem to go that lean.....did you guys try loading a whole new fresh map?
