Temperature has been in the 70's during most the day. However, today we went up to around 6,000 feet and it felt much colder, not sure what the real temp was. This is a great time to ride here, just not a great time to get here or home. |

A lot of R1200GSAs in those pictures. Was the FJ Cruiser your support vehicle ? |

Nice pix. As the owner of both a Uly and an FJ (both the faster black models) and with GS friends, the photos really resonated with me. I'm ready to go! |

Totally inspiring...I NEED to do that trip. I'll be headed for a quick tour of northern/eastern Maine and Nova Scotia this summer, but on a rental bike (probably an ST1300). Thanks for the reminder that adventure is what it's all about! |

No the FJ was not our support vehicle, the Uly was the support vehicle. Those GSes are heavy bikes to pick up. I didn't put those pictures in to protect the guilty, but the Uly never met the ground except with it's tires. |

Snakebreak, I live a little under two hours from Death Valley and have been thinking about doing the ride out there sometime soon. I wasn't sure about the service station situation out there, or if Baker is the closest area. If I remember right, DV is a little over 120 miles down the highway from Baker. Any info on the logistics of your trip would be greatly appreciated. Great freaking pics BTW. Russ |

Go to the map on which has gas stations. http://www.nps.gov/deva/ It is not a problem. The north part of the park is the only place not covered. If you go to Racetrack you will be at the end of the tank. But the ride is brutal, all washboard and deep gravel, and I don't recommend it. Three gas stations in the park and all the roads that go out west. I didn't go out east so I don't know. You can go in or out Panamint, or down from Mojave. Down Mojave to Panamint is fantastic twistys. Get gas by Owens lake and you can go to any of the stations in the Park. Wildrose loop has great twistys and some broken gravels/dirt, if you like tight asphalt it is great. You should go now the weather is great. |

Here's me in '07 going through Titus Canyon. Went to Death Valley again in November. Filled up at Stovepipe Wells and had enough fuel to go to the meteor crater, tea kettle junction, the racetrack and then west over some god-awful jeep trail (I should qualify for the ADV hall of fame for that bonehead decision), then out through Panamint Springs.

I am home now. Snow made it slow, and I had to take some detours to work. Total of 3,947 miles, not even a close call. Hard to be off the bike today. I know you all feel sorry for me |

Yeah Snakebreak - was thinking of sending flowers or something to help you deal with the grief. Me and the Uly just got back to OlyWa from Arizona Wed - Did DV last year on the KLR. Been nice here last 3 days - we now got 10 days of solid rain in the forecast starting tnite. Hope you avoid that over on the 'dryside'. Nice pics - looked like a lone Uly among a pack of 1200GSs. Welcome home. j |

Glad to hear your back. So how was the trip after Death Valley? I was curious which route you came back on. Waterman |

Hi Waterman, It was not a great route. Came up 99 to I 5. I had to wait North of Sacramento for a day since the forecast was for snow and hail down to 500 feet. Next day I made it through to Oregon, and went up to Seattle to work for a day. Then back to Portland, up the Columbia, and past your house on 395. I looked around, but I didn't see a Buell. The route on 26 was pretty clear of snow, so it was only when I got into Pullman that I had to drive over packed snow. Thanks again for your help. Snake |
