I remember a thread a while back where I was suprised to find out how many here were gamers(old school paper and dice baby). I am very slowly building my anime collection. I own a few (Excel Saga, Gunslinger Girls, Kino's Journey, Rozen Maiden). I have seen a bit more and am looking for maybe some suggestions on future viewing. I have ordered Noir and Boogiepop Phantom. (I am NOT looking for "adult anime")

Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Ghost in the Shell(movies and tv show),Bubblegum Crisis(both versions-Priss has a cool bike), Appleseed...Now look what you started, I could go on, and on, proving that I'm a geek. That should be a good start. If you need more titles, let me know. |

Cowboy Bebop! love the show, I have all the episodes and a ton of the music. My ex was really into anime but she liked them more funny, cutesy stuff. |

Anything by Studio Gibli... Totoro, Spirited Away, Porco Rosso, Kiki's Delivery Service. Great for kids and adults as well... Metropolis is really good also... I didn't enjoy Akira. |

When I say "adult anime" I mean porn. I love Elfin Lied. It has a lot of graphic viloence and nudity, and I am fine with that. I just don't want the porn toons. |

Blood - The last vampire.. (horror/and violence) You can get the 'kid versions' of: Kite and Mezzo Forte - You only loose a little bit of the story with the adult parts taken out of the second title. Kite actually made a little more sense (like why the 'hero' was so screwed up mentally)with the harsher stuff included. Be warned, even the 'kid' versions have serious violence and bloody shootout action. X10 on Appleseed and the second part, Ex Machina is now out and is well worth the viewing. Full Metal Panic! A great series and it aired on TV over there, so it's almost safe for the kids to watch (a little fan service, yes, but nothing outright)} Gunsmith Cats is another good action title, the books of course give you a bit more about the two girls and I think had a little more of an adult reader in mind.. but I had a serious crush on Ralley V when I was younger (the Shelby and a firearms expert.. what's not to love? ) Another one I loved (especially the first installment) was Crying Freeman this is a classic now and while the books are MUCH better the video version is still a great watch. The latter chapters got cheaper and edited the story too much for my likes, but then it was a political thing in Japan and that's a whole 'nother story. One thing you have to remember about a lot of Anime that we get over here.. It's been pretty heavily edited. When you're buying some of this stuff, it may be what was released to the rest of the world or may be a US only release. This means a lot of what we Americans think of as 'Mature' subject matter, is still in there however (as far as subject matter goes) most of which is actually pretty mundane stuff in Japan. So, unless you stick with the 'child' titles from Japan (aimed directly at the little ones) you'll likely find a few items in various anime's that you might think is inappropriate for the genre. Ok, sorry.. Let me stop before I go into all kinds of stuff and start sounding like I'm lecturing... (Message edited by BluBlak on March 09, 2009) |

Just for kicks: UROTSUKIDOJI !!!!!!!!!!!! Google that bad boy! Okay, I'm joking. Seriously don't. You'll regret it. My roommate scarred me for life with that one, and I hear there are far worse. ~SM |

Wait, someone recommended Appleseed? That was TERRIBLE! The second one was alright, but the screwy cell-shaded 3D got on my nerves. ~SM |
