I'm headed out to look at an '06 Ulysses with around 8,000 miles on it. Is there anything in particular I should know before potentially buying one. I could only find three recalls one for a bank sensor issue, one for a sidestand issue, and one for a windscreen issue. Anything else I should ask? I'm hoping they'll let me take a test ride, but if not, I'm 6'2" and 270, is that an issue for the suspension? I've gone through the forums here and noticed some FI issues that seem easily solved. Any suggestions on things to ask/watch out for would be appreciated. Also, they're asking 7495 with bags and topcase. Is this a reasonable price? |

The Uly can easily handle your size,7500 might be a little high but if it's in good shape, make an offer. |

Sean- Welcome! Those are the only recalls. Otherwise, the only significant issue is the rear wheel bearings; they are somewhat failure prone. Buell recently came out with updated units that are supposed to be better. Your weight shouldn't be an issue for the suspension unless you're riding two-up. With 2 people and luggage you'd probably be pushing the max GVW, especially if your passenger is, oh, "not slim". If you do get a test ride, ask him to adjust the suspension first (go by the owner's manual). That makes ALL the difference in how the bike handles. $7495 sounds a little steep for a used 06. I'm pretty sure we've seen NEW dealer left-over 06's going for that much here. (Message edited by hughlysses on March 06, 2009) |

Two-up won't be a problem, she can get her own bike if she wants to come along The H-D dealership I'm going to is pretty unreasonable, they insisted that the bags on a Uly are worth a 2500 dollar price difference between '06s with similar miles. I go up and check the other ones and they've got price tags equal to the bagless one. I'm not even holding my breath for a test ride, but we'll see. Lucky me that they're the only Buell dealer within 5 hours. Thank you for the information. Hopefully I'll get to join here on a more permanent basis! |

They used to be cheaper. Tell them to take the bags off and knock $2500 off the price if they are worth that much. There is someone here selling a brand new set of the bags for $750 in the classifieds. |

In May of '06, I paid a private party $8500 for a stock '06 Uly with 850 miles. Good luck with your purchase. |

The only thing I can think of that you should know off hand is that you are going to love that thing. |

they insisted that the bags on a Uly are worth a 2500 dollar price difference between '06s with similar miles. Buy one of the ones with out bags. Those bags are not worth $2500. If you can live with the smaller size, the outdoorsman bags that are now available are much sturdier. |

I bought almost exactly the same bike as you for $6923 from a dealer two months ago. Mine had 9,900 miles. --Doc |

That price on the bike itself sounds steep to me. The bags are not worth that much either. Keep an eye out on ebay and other biker sites and you can find deals on those HB bags. I paid $560 for mine in early 07 used and in perfect shape without the topcase. For $2500 you could get Zega bags or Jessies. |
