it has a rod, we got away from that with the later tuber shifters. or are you talking about the shifter itself? seen very few pics of the left side.

Looks like a tiny version of the old boomerang style shifters.
I prefer the shifters like that so the lever pivots around the peg.

It doesn't chew up your shoe as bad.

That's one THE BADDEST sportsters I have ever seen. I wonder if they are gonna have that exhaust as an option ? That's the only thing I couldn't look at on this new one, that FUGLY stock exhaust.

I think the asthetics (like many things on the bike) of the shift linkage on the XR1200 leaves a lot to be desired.
Might want to see it in person before you lay down some cash.

Looks a bit flimsy and as an afterthought. At least in my opinion.

I am sure a nice chromed one, or carved from billet into a flame pattern version is not to far away.....: )

will the updated on work with my chin fairing or do i need another piece? i have read that it will but im not sure how it does. the buell boomerang has got to go!!! i kinda like the billet look of the xr shift setup, nice and compact compared to the big buell one

Oh yeah, I think you need the new mounting hardware for the updated shifter.

I don't know the P/N for that..If someone knows the part numbers, please post!

The updated shifter is much nicer looking, must be why the XB comes with a similar setup ; )

"will the updated on work with my chin fairing or do i need another piece?"

There is a shifter upgrade kit for the X1 that accommodates the chin fairing. Comes with everything you need to put the 01 shifter on a 99-00 model. Look on Buell.com for the part number.

the longer the actuating rod, and the further the pivot is away, all adds up to sloppy! the above shifter set up works great. have updated all my older tubers to this style.

GGRRRR i hate this updated shifter it is crappy sloppy. I wish i could afford a banke shifter. My 01 x1 supposedly has the upgraded style shifter and if it is the updated one it blows majorly!!

It does get a bit sloppy after a while. It rotates on a bushing, whereas the Bankes I believe uses a bearing.

Regardless, it is WAY better than the original one IMHO.

Sloppy both ways, 1/2" up and down and 1" side to side, I can see that the washer's on it are either worn out or maybe i can double the washer and remove some of the play, I tried to adj. the play on the shifting but it didn't do anything just made the shifter to close to the primary case.

This shifter has been my biggest gripe i have about this bike, I really just hate it!!

American Sport Bike sells some bronze bushings i believe, that are supposed to help with the tightness. i haven't needed them yet.

"my boomerang bushing feels like a lady from a red light corner"

I must admit, I've never used the bushing in quite that manner. Perhaps the lubricant you are using is causing it to deteriorate.

"American Sport Bike sells some bronze bushings i believe, that are supposed to help with the tightness. i haven't needed them yet."

I bought and installed the bronze bushings a couple of weeks ago. It took out the entire side-to-side play from the boomerang. It comes as a set for both the shifter and the rear brake. I just did the shifter 'cause my rear brake is pretty tight as is.
One of the best $40 I spent. Highly recommended. Besides, I think the boomerang set up is part of the "character " of the bike.
