finally got a little break in the weather, rolled her outside for a few "before" pics; at this point all i have done is removed the old battery, removed the air filter for cleaning, and removed the taillight/lic plate assy. otherwise untouched. notice the band sticker on the tail. worn out front tire. all original. bent shifter. broken clutch lever and signal. |

the next step was to remove the carb and get it cleaned and inspected; notice the gaping hole, on the INSIDE of the air filter!! this must have been for a FI part? will need to block that off!! plus he had the head breather hose routed inside, i will re-route that of course. a few of the carb before cleaning; all clean and purty!! i discovered it has already been jetted, 200 main and 45 slow. it was missing one of the shoulder screws that hold the top on!! hopefully those are available? it was fairly dirty, but relatively free of major varnish and debris. the idle screw had its cover removed already, contrary to what i reported earlier. i tried to check the adjustment on it...it was about 2 turns out, i tried to back it all the way out, and it gets real tight, the threads look a bit boogered, hopefully it will be ok. i also plan on replacing the intake boot and manifold seals. |

carb top screws are an active available hd part, there are 3 shouldered screws 27262-96, and 1 called a collar 27263-96. any hd dealer should have or at least be able to get these, if not call me 401-724-0010 nice bike, you will love the cyclone i love mine! |

thanks Tripp, i found the p/n in my S3 book. local dealer doesn't have any!!! $1.00 each. i need one of the 3. if i can't get one at one of the other dealers in the area, i'll call you. does anyone know the p/n of the bracket that is supposed to go around the race pipe, and connect to the front hanger? i also need one of the little rubber isolators that go in the Y bracket? |

i did a break down for the race pipe but i'm not sure what part you're referring to i think it's the header support s1121.g or muffler support s0123.2c, i have to run, but if you can get me a fax number i'll fax you the complete instructions tomorrow! also has part listing! |

feeling all motivated after cleaning the carb, i decided to pull the muffler off, so i could take it down to the local welder and get it fixed. so here's the deal; apparently the inlet to the muffler broke off, as someone's idea of a fix, they welded a smaller diam piece of pipe INTO the collector, then just had that slipped inside the muffler. so i plan on seeing if my welder can fix all that properly: extend the inlet to the muffler, remove the pipe that is currently welded into the collector, and use it as it was intended! another Mickey Mouse alert!!!! the muffler had a couple hose clamps strung together and wrapped around the shock to help support it!!! the shock assisted muffler hanger; the collector; also noticed a few cracks around the end caps of the muffler, near the rear hanger, i'll have those welded too. |

Tripp, this is the area i'm talking about; i was lead to believe there should be some sort of bracket to tie into the front hanger.

Someone will post the Race Pipe instructions here, if not drop me a note and I'll have them sent from the factory. Let me know what rubber bushing you need . . . anybody who's saving an M2 can surely scavenge a part!

Sleez, I do not think this is what you want but here are pics on my Race pipe on the S2T.
I do not have the Y holder but will get one from Al at American Sport Bike but i do not know if the rubber bushing comes with it but I think it does. You might want to give him a call. If there are more pics you need let me know and I can take them while it is light out. I think the M2 is a total loss and I feel so bad for you that I will send you 1000 dollars and come pick it it up. Frank |

Great looking bike Sleez! That gaping hole on the back plate is like that on every race kit that I've seen -- I've seen 5 or 6 of them not including my own. Don't tell anyone, please, but I seal mine with a piece of tape and change it on the oil change schedules. 60K+ miles and no issues. |

F_skinner; yeah!! i think i need that "shoe" bracket thing! i plan on talking to Al tomorrow, he was out today. thanks for the offer...not for sale...yet...if at all!!! Bigdaddy; my race AC on the S1W does not have that hole. i think it was added for the late model FI bikes, and gets plugged by something??? on the carb'd bikes. |

Sleez, The ham can backing plate you have is for an X1 or S3. The M2 version doesn't have the hole. Al does have the race shoes and clamps. Brad |

I gotta say the more I look at the bike the more I think it is the nicest color combo on a Tuber...Somehow it matches the bike's personality... It is also awesome to watch how folks are so passionately chiming in to "save" a beloved Tuber...Almost feels as if we are nursing and helping an abused and malnourished child to get back on its feet... Can't wait to hear the review after its out for its "first" ride. |

Kalali; thanks, i have always liked this color combo too. didn't accomplish much today. took the muffler and pipe into a local welder and came up with a plan, but he didn't have any pipe, so i went to ukiah to find some SS tubing. the local supplier in ukiah didn't have any the correct size, except in schedule 40 (way thick) and the welder said it probably wouldn't work. i tried a bunch of muffler shops, but they tend to not carry SS tubing because their bender wont't bend it! so i followed another lead, to a manufacturer that i never knew was in the area, who is a tier 1 supplier to Polaris! i talked to their engineer, they didn't have any tubing that size either, but in talking to him, he suggested using the sch 40 pipe and they could turn it down on one end, and make a nice slip joint with a labyrinth seal. sounds good to me, so i may go that route. while i was there, he was holding the muffler and suggested i drill out the rivets and replace the packing, and he gave me some really cool ceramic packing that he said should last "forever", nice guy! i am going to call him and see if his offer stands and when is a good time to bother him with my little project. you run into the nicest people dealing with motorcycles!!! |

Hey Sleez, Hit me up if you need stuff, I might have it. And I'm selling off my stash to get the bike running again. I've even got an an extra Volcano Gray Tailsection, and an extra Volcano Gray tank, both used... God knows what else I have that you may need. I'm not going to be needing most of this shit once she's running, since once she's reliable, up for sale she most likely will go! I need outta debt. Whattaya need/want? |

Brinnutz, i'll PM you, thanks. the one part i can't find locally without special ordering it is the carb top screw/spacer thing p/n 27262-96. i even went to a "chopper" shop to see if i could find one from an old carb....no go! i plan on changing the screws to SS allen heads anyway, but that is the only way to get the shoulder/spacer. |

cool news, i found the rubber bushings at the manufacturer, they are sending me a couple as a sample, and i let Al know the info so he may be able to get them if there is demand in the future. the manufacturer stated that buell/hd hasn't purchased any since 03, and the manufacturer shows some in stock. they are not a standard part. he also told me they are slated for discontinue, therefore what is out there is all there ever will be. Wilson, he was only allowed to "sample" me 2, but i can send you the one i have here. if you want, once i make sure i get the samples. also hit al up, he said he hasn't had much demand for the bushings separately so hasn't pursued finding a source. |

Might not be a bad idea to let Al know. He might want, at the price of a bushing, to buy up their stock. |
