Gus, the X1 needs: 110mm of 5 weight fork oil. (pick up 2 quarts, measure as Henrik said) compression, 2 turns out CCW rebound 1 turn out CCW |

Bob, Got my info from RaceTech: go to their site here and enter all your info. They'll give you a list of what they recommend - plus list the stock settings which is where I got my info. Traxxion looks good but they're twice as much as RaceTech. I'm only a mediocre street rider looking for someone to go over my S1 forks. Josh |

Fork height: Put bottom edge of the bevel on the top of the fork tubes even with the top of the upper clamp. |

Uwgriz, I have a new '01 M2L that I was thinking about changing to a M2. So question for group is, what suspension parts need to be swapped to make M2 into M2L & vice versa. Thanks |

Aesquire, I've got an '02 M2L that I was thinking about doing that with. Compared parts, and you need damper, springs, and a few other miscellaneous things to convert. Basically, by the time you add up all the parts to convert the thing, you may as well buy new legs. There's not much price difference, and its a hell of alot less hassle I'm gonna do a new X1 front end myself... Frank |

Cyclone1, Thanks, so the big issue is the fork? Is the rear just a shock change? I was wondering about a M2 & M2L side by side, fork internals & rear shock, right? |

FYI Racetech cannot respring an M2 rear shock. They can just rebuild it. Any other ideas. No 600-800 bucks for a Penske is not an option.. |

I'm about to start upgrading my Y2K M2's fork . .. completely stock at this point. . .. . any pros or cons on the differing springs available (Buell P&A, Race Tech, et al) . .. . my weight is in the 200 pound (28 stone) area, and the stock springs, of course, are just BARELY adjustable to yield proper sag with my extra-chubby-jumbo self in the saddle . . . |

Bomber; call Traxxion Dynamics and get springs with the correct spring rate. The Buell springs are an improvement, but not stiff enough for you. Race Tech only carries springs up to 1 kg/mm, which may not be enough either. They'll tell you it'll work ... but why not get what you need now that you're spending the $$ anyway. Traxxion can also sell you emulators, and if you buy it all from them, they're really good about post-purchase-support. Henrik |

Bomber; not a hint at your "mass" at all . I'm just shy of your 28 stone and have 1.1 kg/mm springs in the S2. I always ride in full gear and carrying a tank bag, so you may not need as much spring. Henrik |

I'm working on a set of 2000 showa forks off of a S1 (inverted style), I want to remove the piece on the lower end of the slider, where the brake mounts. I want to powdercoat this a different color and I dont know if it is threaded or press fit. Has anyone ever done this? Is there a place on the net that shows this fork completely broken down? I have a repair manual but the info is limited. |

I sent my forks to Lindeman Engineering for a rebuild/revalve. The titanium nitride coating was an additional option. It's supposed to reduce "stiction" and provide for better suspension performance. It will be a couple of months before I can try them out. |

Re-spring and re-valve is $400. The TiN coating is an additional $400. They said my tubes were too worn to coat, and supplied a new set for approx. $130. I had installed Racetech springs from Tat at ASB last year, which they re-used and knocked $90 or $100 off the rebuild price. I also had racetech gold valves which they were OK with, but they prefer to modify the stock valves. My total was $830. When opening the package, along with my rebuilt forks, I was surprised to find the old tubes, bushings, and seals in the box. I thought that was a nice touch |
