Hello fellow Buellers, Ok, I'm looking into buying a pipe for my 12S. The question that I have is, what brand can I just bolt on without having to get my bike tuned? I think I read somewhere that I could get by without tuning when using Drummer and Voodoo, but what about Jardine? Any help would be nice. Thanks. |

Special Ops, I have one on my 12ss with no other performance mods and stock map, it runs and sounds great. I believe if all else is stock you can get by without tuning. If you do intake mods along with the pipe then you should probably consider tuning. |

If you are running the Ops pipe, you can go with a stock ecm or go with the race. If you wanna go with map for the pipe itself, you can contact Al at American Sportbike. The Ops pipe is a great pipe with great sound and runs well. I run a stock ecm and could tell that I could get just a little bit more out of running the map for it but not enough to justify the extra cash. Peace |

Special Ops...okay, is that the only muffler that can be used without a tune? |

Drummer also. It's a better pipe IMO. |

You'll be ok with most pipes as long as you replace your stock ECM with a Race ECM. In my book, replacing the stock pipe with ANYTHING requires a minimum of a race ECM. Otherwise you will run too lean. Your best bet is to decide on the pipe you want and then get the map from Al at American Sport Bike. Call Al and ask him. He knows a lot about the subject. You will spend a little more but the bike will be right. Trust me, I went down the road you are starting on and that's what I learned, after spending lots of money. |

I run my D&D with stock ECM, and air filter. It does run a little lean but i am planning on using ecm spy to help it out instead of forking out for a race ecm |

Special Ops or Drummer! These are the only 2 brands I personally would consider! I run a Special ops on my XB, but nothing but love for Drummer as well. Just my 2 cents, I'm all for the little guy! |

I have the Original Drummer. Go to http://www.kdfab.com/drummer%20intro.htm and give Kevin a call, he's really helpful and will talk whether you're going to buy his pipe or not. You'll have to leave a message or two for him to call you back but that's normal, he's a busy guy i guess! BTW, I LOVE my drummer! I have an 08 xb12s with the Drummer and K&N Airfilter and have no problems. Stay VERY far away from the Jardine and D&D! They're known to put very noticeable dips and "holes" in your torque curve (feels like a stall almost) and you'll surely have to make ECM mods to bring the Air/Fuel ratio back to a resonable mix. Go Drummer or Special Ops. The Voodo is very new and I havn't heard too much about it yet. Good luck! |

I just bolted on an SS Drummer on my '08 and it runs better than ever before. No other mods, ECM adjusted automatically to the new pipe. Lovely sound too. |

Nice, this is my first thread on this forum and all this info has been great!! I spoke to Al at American Sport Bike and he gave me some great info, so I think I'll be going with the Drummer. I'll do the ECM upgrade and tune when I finish my vacation in the sandbox. |

Look into ECMspy. It's usable on your bike but not so much for 08 and later Buells. This will tune your bike's air/fuel mixture to the pipe and u tell it how rich u want it at different throttle positions. Good luck |

I have an 08 with a Drummer, didn't need to tune it and it runs better than before. |

I think a big misconception is that your bike will run lean with an aftermarket pipe. In thinking about how the ecm works I think this is false. The O2 sensor monitors the exhaust and if it's lean then the AFG will go up. rich AFG goes down. AFG is a multiplier to the map in open loop region. In CL the map is multiplied by the ego corr. The race maps are more agressive with the timing and the fuel is adjusted according. |

I'd like to point out that the AFV is 'learned' in regular riding and cruising (open loop). That portion of the rpm range will be correct. However when you really wring her neck, that information is swept aside and it now relies on programming within the ecm and the information it gathererd in open loop. The programming part is where the trouble comes in because it was indeed programmed to perform with a stock or race pipe. Also check out the exhaust shootout at american sportbike for more information about the rich and lean areas in each type of ecm/pipe combo. To get to the point, none are a true match. Sometimes the stock maps are not so hot as well. Get your bike tuned by Al or if you're strapped for cash, run a setup that does not induce by comparison rich or lean spots. |

I have an 08 xb12 with a k&n air filter and drummer. I've had no problems for 5000mi and don't want to mess with the ecm tuning and create a problem. Do you really feel a custom ecm from al would give me a majorly noticeable/dependable increase in power? |
