You need either ECMspy, or a Harley/Buell Digital Tech computer. |

This is from Steve's Tuning Guide to ECMspy: LINK (see page 25): http://www.ecmspy.com/download/BuellTuningGuide_EN _V1.6.pdf .................... Page 25 of 48 BuellTuningGuideV1.6.doc 12/03/2008 Resetting the Throttle Position Sensor The TPS is an electronic sensor which can require resetting periodically. Before tuning your Buell it is important to reset the TPS to ensure accurate results. First select the Gauges screen and connect to the ECM. On the front left of the engine, between the airscoop and the engine is the Idle adjust screw, which simply adjusts the butterfly in the injector to allow air through for tickover. Adjust this screw until the throttle % drops to 0. Keep winding the screw out a bit further and hold the throttle closed with light clockwise pressure on the throttle grip. Select the Functions tab on ECM Spy and select TPS Reset. Wind in the idle adjust screw until the TPS is set to approx 4.6 degrees or 5.1% This should be approximately correct for tick over. That’s all there is to resetting the TPS! Start the bike and check tick over is ok, adjust the idle adjust to get a steady tick over. . |

He is using VDSTS and not even getting into the program. He is getting an error about the RS232 serial cable. Never touched that program before, I am reading a help guide but am not sure what to do to help. |

The thing that hung me up for a while (using VDSTS) was that not only the ignition switch (duh) but the "KILL" switch has to be on to connect. I always kill the engine w/kill switch so it was off. It probably wasn't this, but just in case... --Doc |

Yup. Simple as righty tighty/lefty loosey on a drain plug, but leaving the kill switch off has caused more than a few minutes of consternation in doing TPS reset work. |

I appreciate the helpfull hints but this has been an ongoing disaster for me. I have two different VDST kits and two Keyspan RS232's (that will be going on Ebay if no-one here wants them). I don't know WTF is wrong but I have sent a communique to Mike at Xopti to see if he can walk my computer savy son through the whole "spy" thing either over the phone or computer. Am I correct in thinking that I just hook my computer up to my bike with the RS232 and somehow push a button and all the magic just happens ? My bike is a near stock 05 12R all it has is a K&N and a Drummer. (Message edited by skinstains on February 28, 2009) |

Does anyone know how to figure out what year and model an ECM is by the numbers on them ? Or does it not matter if I'm going to use the ECM-Spy ? I know I'm a mess with this **** but once I get all my bikes "spyed" I'll be set. Right ? My kingdom for a set of points and a condensor!!! |

Yea skin I can walk you through the ECMspy, but you will need to buy/make a ECMspy cable first. American Sport Bike has them. |

Froggy, I have two of those things but they are two piece. The Keyspan is a RS232 that comes with a disk so you download it into your computer and then plug the other wire into it (the one that plugs in to the bike). I'm sick of buying stuff that doesn't seem to work. Do you really think that I need the one piece that Al sells ? |

Skin, I will make a deal with you, I will come down and reset your TPS, educate you on ECMspy, attempt to figure out VDSTS, and then you fix my wiring issues. |

There is a setting you have to change in order to get VDSTS to work with a keyspan adapter. I can't remember what it is and I'm at work right now (I work nights). I can look it up when I get home if you want me to. |

Yeah Packdog, that would be cool. Froggy is coming to set me up with Ecm Spy but I may as well know how to use the VDST's I have. |

Sell the VDSTS. ECMSPY is so much better. When Froggy gets there you'll understand. |

I plan on doing just that (offloading these things) but I need to know that they are functional before I dump them on someone. When I first got the VDST there was no Ecmspy, or it was an extremely well kept secret. I also know that I am clueless with all the computer stuff so I was just gonna stick with the race ecm and reset the tps with the VDST. Froggy is gonna hook me up and I'll be set. Anyone want to buy a VDST ??? How about a Direct-link set up ??? |
