Just wondering for all you guys who either have come over to Buell 1125's from foreign bikes, British,Italian, Japanese or German, or at least own one what you have seen on Air/Fuel ratios from dyno runs or any other "credible" sources.

K&N's web site shows an A/F ratio monitor using a series of LED's to depict ratios. It shows 17.1-15.1 for economy, 14.7-14.7 for best all around and 14.1-12.1 for power. Now that "appears" the "economy section" is way lean but just maybe not into engine problems (hard to believe), but it could be sometimes normal. From reports here we may occasionally see that on our 1125's. I also think we run mostly in the "best all around" area. Probably not much in the power range because of big brothers EPA.

I believe the "power range" would be best, for power, drive ability and cooling, maybe towards the 13.0 area, but without serious ECM tuning probably not possible.
I hope some who buy aftermarket exhausts and filters can get A/F ratios posted to help us decide where we want to go individually.

This post is directed toward the street tuner/rider as racing is yet another tuning world for max. H.P. and in usually a single area/track location.

I wouldn't want to go anywhere near 17 to one with the throttle on..but you are basically correct.
Within a small window, a gasoline powered, valve controlled engine is just that, just an internal combustion engine...same as all the rest.

The chamber shape, the cam design, the valve placement, the number of valves, etc., etc., all have a play in the final desire for fuel, but that's in the final 5% or 6% or so of fuel and ignition lead mapping.

For what it's worth...this engine was designed and built "way" closer to Germany than the USA.

Thanks for your input Mike. Have you seen or heard of any credible A/F ratios on your R1?
